The phone is comfortable to hold and feels very stable. The rubber of the outer shell acts abrasion resistant and gives the impression that you can really have much to do with it, and even must: D
- The display is bright enough for daylight (have it at the lowest level I (for one thing because I do not need light and secondly, the battery life time unnecessarily shorten)).
- The volume of the ring tones and the speaker is more than adequate and the vibrating alarm by a thick winter jacket (canada goose with phone in the outside pocket) noticeably.
- The menu system is a bit strange, but to get relatively quickly so deal (especially if you have ever had a Sysmbian phone - is very similar).
- Operation with gloves is possible without any problems.
- Snow and cold (tested at a ski tour at ~ -15 °) are not a problem.
- Telephone conversation with the current shower (purely for testing purposes !!!!) worked perfectly.
- Call quality is excellent in both the 2G as well as 3G in
- Reception quality (signal) is far better than the phones of Bergkameraden (tested on a ski tour (good power to very good reception and successful conversation in 2G where in a Nexus S in the same network and the same provider no call was possible)) - compared with a "non-smart" was, for lack of lack of equipment, not yet possible.
- Build Your Own Trekkbuddy and raster maps are for non-recurring items (for SW installation) also available.
- Sonim Support has very quickly and competently respond (no standard answers).
Now for the drawbacks:
- Devices with the SW version 10.0.0-21 (query the selfsame: the home screen # 2639 # tap) have an echo problem. When the earpiece volume to "1" sets during a call, the opposite hears an extremely disturbing echo of itself. If you increase the earpiece volume is the echo path. (Info from the Support: Problem is known, will update with SW (V: 10.0.0-25) corrected). -> My device is currently the support!
- For the pre-installed offline routing tool "City Cruiser" only a limited number of countries is available. (Update of the list of countries comes after I got the phone from the support back again) - Austria is not there in any case.
- You can indeed install Java programs, but you have to try out work which, since there is no documentation, what exactly is supported.
- About a "Sonim store" you can load more programs, but this is limited to a total of 7 tools (converter, translator, Yahoo Maps, etc)
- The charger cable / USB cable is proprietary (4 pin plug). However, it is supplied on a MicroUSB adapter jack.
- Error messages or alerts on the display are cut partially and can not figure out most of what has actually why is not working.
- Ringtones can indeed replace it, but only for telephony. For SMS only sound is available.
- RIsK differing not betw phone ringing, SMS Inbox or Calendar alarm..
- Alarms for calendar events can not be turned off (at least I did not find it)
- PC software is enough. you can synchronize and if you're lucky the Adessbuch is even (eg Outlook) _vollständig_ synchroniesiert (special characters are likely to be a problem (eg for a telephone number: 0666 12345-678) Mail addresses are partially unusable synchroniesiert)
All in all, a two-part telephone. The hardware convinces on all fronts, the software is something to be desired.
I admit nevertheless 4 stars because I exactly expect from this phone, which I mentioned at the positive things. Excellent exterior performance, stability, is claimable (dust, fall, water, cold, snow, etc). Internet and additional applications were not a criterion for / against a purchase.
Those looking for a smartphone, where telephony, endurance and stability takes a back seat, is absolutely wrong advise here.
I will make an update of previous experience in the fall.

After I got the phone from the support again, I decided to return the phone and for the following reasons:
The support has indeed ruled quickly, but the phone came with the same defect back again. Software was indeed aktuallisiert but came no improvement (on the contrary, the response was more disturbing than previously with the old software)
At my request was why claims that it would be solved with safety with an update, but it was not so, came as autoresponder back that I should send the phone but check the support section.
When I replied that I would return the phone, came the reply: What is actually the problem and when it occurs (though I did so in an approximately A4 pages description already) ...
Conclusion: phone has weaknesses, not an issue. Only, the support is actually like everyone else (something update that is already helping) = rather bad (maybe it was also just bad luck).
The problem (the echo) would in itself not earth-shattering (mainly: there is a simple workaround), but I would not think I even really need what the support. Since the device scratch the 400Euro brand, better support you can actually expect.
