"What Goes Boom" had (less thick produced) on the Trompe Le Monde can be, "Magdalena 318" even on the Bossa Nova. Only the naive-sloping awkwardness of previous releases has been lost. Frank Black will be rockers. His voice has become deeper, involuntarily, he sounds at times like Ozzy Osbourne (>> "Indy Cindy"). Some songs suffer from overproduction with too much bass, too much and too many Hall superfluous effects. Sometimes Frank Black can play with strength hardly.
But then there are also back beads on the album. "Snakes" is my favorite. Opener What Goes Boom and closing number "Jaime Bravo" are also great.
My conclusion:
As Pixies fan of the first hour I will not make the mistake, to assess them against the old standards. A good, dynamic album time being, something too hard going to be rocking. Total overproduced. Nevertheless, strong numbers out.
However, I find the last slices of Breeders' Title TK "and" Mountain Battles "significantly more creative and authentic. Kim Deal was missing at Reunion. She somehow manages again and again to make almost casually good music.
