First, for processing:
The processing of the camera is relatively stable and a good outdoor companion. The battery and the memory card are locked via a double security to prevent the ingress of water. The gasket is high-quality workmanship and finishes very clean. Otherwise, the camera consists of a closed housing, offering very little water, dust, sand, etc. possibilities to penetrate into the housing. The weight and size is slightly higher than the "simple compact cameras." The display is perfectly adequate from the largest ago, but the resolution is not overwhelming. The control buttons on the other hand are very easy to operate underwater. With gloves but it could be tricky, here is only the trigger really big enough. The pressure point of focus in the trip is good and also for callous / feeling poor user fixable.
The camera / picture quality:
The camera takes better pictures underwater as partially afloat. The 14.4 MP are more than adequate, but the camera takes 12 MP to better pictures. The noise is reduced and the camera behavior (tripping time / exposure etc.) is improved. The autofocus is occasionally a small disaster, this focused occasionally totally wrong, especially in the lighting conditions as they occur now times in indoor pools. Here I recommend just a lot of pictures to do with it are not worth the 10-20% Committee. Underwater the autofocus works mostly better, but here there is not even quite as much opportunities for focusing.
The 5x optical zoom is under water more than sufficient on land partly somewhat low. From "dramatic telephoto shots" as described by Fujifilm but you can not talk.
The colors are for a compact camera a little pale but quite acceptable. Also, the contrast of the images is okay. All in all, the camera is relatively good pictures if it has properly focused. To this end, I recommend not necessarily the "SR Auto" mode to use, this only works conditional. The simple "Auto" mode is better here. Because otherwise I'm just with my images SLT-A77, I miss the possibility of manual settings. There actually nothing. Nevertheless, the preferences of the individual programs and their results are quite good.
The movie function "Full-HD video in the highest quality" leaves much to be desired. The highest quality is far away. The create most phones much better. Who wants to movies should not necessarily pull this camera into consideration.
Technical equipment:
The Wireless Image Transfer is a nice feature, but these have only tried once briefly. The transfer works quite well so far, is for me personally, however, too slow and too expensive. However Fuji is the app for mobile and tablet for free and it works fairly straightforward. I myself use most like my card reader.
Overview:
All in all, Fujifilm, the FinePix XP170 good compact camera in the program. It is not the "ultimate" but agrees the price / performance ratio.
IMPORTANT!
This camera requires a certain amount of care in order to remain waterproof. It should no dust, Harre or other foreign objects lying on the rubber seal for battery and memory card. In addition, a rubber seal should be maintained slightly. I recommend here with very simple Vaseline after each use to rub the gasket slightly. Thus, the seal remains supple and thereby sealing. Without care and cleanliness also very fast water penetrates into the unit. My camera was so far already good 20 times bathing gone and I've never had a water intrusion.
