I write here only about the picture quality.
I own a NEX5N, a Canon 550D and the RX100. The Ixus 240 HS was for my friend!
Images in the sunshine: focus and you can zoom-in! Picture quality is pretty good. Not quite on RX100 or NEX-5N, but just below! I really do not know what others complain about it. Either they expect a picture quality of a Full Format, or not at all know what means image quality. The camera takes really sharp photos! (Customer images CROP)
Pictures in difficult light: It looks much worse. The camera always makes only photos with flash. These are quite sharp, the image noise is to ISO 400 really okay. In my view, can not be compared with an NEX (As it comes to ISO 1600 super in Orndnung). Therefore, it is just no SLR! Since you pay the small sensor tribute! (Customer images CROP!)
Images at night: useless to quite lousy. In the full view is still OK, but then it ends up!
BUT: If you expect more image quality, you should buy the RX100 (large sensor, great image quality) - who does in daylight photos can strike!
