The adapter works just fine with my hard drives (two Maxtor and Samsung).
One can thus also operate an internal CD / DVD drive externally.
In terms of equipment, in this adapter set is actually more. What would have been desirable, which is a switch with which you switched on the power supply and can switch off. But you can, for example, "retrofitted" with an extra tilt switch.
IMPORTANT IS AS FOLLOWS:
The drive must be set as "MASTER" necessarily before the first plugging jumper! This is very important, otherwise it does not work most. The jumper settings are usually printed on the hard disk, who should not be familiar with it ask an expert for advice or to make smart on the Internet.
When connecting one should observe the following sequence:
1) Connect the Digitus data cable to the hard disk, but only on the hard drive and not to the USB port on your computer! 2) to the hard drive and to the power outlet so that the hard drive is receiving power The power cord. You should then "boot", it shows them that they are quiet noises vibrate or starts (also she warms up with time). One should wait about 5 seconds to make sure that the hard drive is certainly fully booted. 3) Plug the Digitus data cable to the USB port on the PC, preferably an authorized where no other equipment hang.
Then the red light ("USB") should be lit on Digitus plug when you connect the drive the first time takes about 15-20 seconds to Windows then the necessary drivers to install.
After that the drive should have its own drive letter, so you can access it.
If that is not the case (eg if the drive is not partitioned) then you can partition the hard disk in the Control Panel under Administrative Tools => Computer Management => Disk Management, format and (if desired) assign a specific drive letter.
If it still does not work, it is usually because the hard drive is defective.
If there are problems or something have gone wrong, you can also try:
Windows sets of previously connected devices in the% systemroot% \ inf (eg C: \ windows \ inf) a file named INFCACHE.1 on. Possibly this file is damaged by a previous, unsuccessful installation of another device or fed with false information. One must therefore manually delete this file. Windows builds this file again automatically as soon as a new device is plugged.
Note: In order to change the name "Inf" ever sees, you have to expand in the Folder Options => View initially "Hide protected system files" and "Show hidden files and folders" or de-activate.
