The FW material is often obsolete because of changes and developments in MacPro, iMac and others who have more than 800 of the FW while our external CD-burner drives are still perfectly usable.
This possibility of connection starting from a FW 400 to FW 800 is a good tool, cheap and perfect to keep our equipment FW 400 and connect it to the new generation of Macs.
