Who does not know, the whole day with the full SLR equipment go, and in the evening you can feel the cross ... on the other side is allowed sometimes the SLR at home, because too large, heavy and cumbersome.
Durchprobiert have several small cameras, but was never really satisfied, the last one was the Canon G10, good camera with light, but with low-light well - it was not the great love, why we do not say it this way (and have them also so often taken) ...
The EVIL market I watch for a long time (in my eyes the future), but I never wanted the 1st generation of cameras to buy (the teething problems are then always eliminated in version 2 ;-))
For me last following cameras were short-listed selection as a second camera: Canon G1X, Sony NEX5N, Fuji X-Pro1 and Sony NEX-7
Actually, I would have liked a Canon camera after my complete equipment of Canon's and I did not want to build a new system. But the Canon G1X failed to meet my expectations, no interchangeable lenses, weak viewfinder, the camera is too large and unsexy. Sony NEX5N is cool, held in the hands, but since I do not have the optional viewfinder and Einstellradeln, built-in flash, etc. to remain flexible. Fuji X-Pro1 was interesting, but not (yet) more expensive than the NEX-7, oldschool style (although is trend but I am still alive in 2012) - in tests compared not much better than the NEX-7 cut ...
So the Sony Nex-7: Yeah, already not cheap (especially when compared with the NEX-5N), but I love the functionality and design. The initial purchase of pain is quickly dissipated as soon as one holds the camera in hands - cool part. Some write that is complicated to operate, and it takes a lot of time to implement it - I think not, much is intuitive, once read the entire booklet nevertheless rarely hurts ...
The technical details, I do not really need to repeat the things that fascinate me are the following:
=> Easy handling, versatile and easy to use
=> Electronic Viewfinder is convenient
=> The dials are suuuper, as with an SLR
=> The weight and size - a dream (as compared to a "full-blown SLR" like the 5D + lens)!
=> The design: noble and elegant
=> 10 photos per second! (The 5D can only 3 photos per second and is too slow for Sport)
=> Images even with ISO 1600 or 3200 - Wow, even when compared to 5d
=> Special programs such as panoramic photos, HDR photos from his hand, Anti-Shake photos in low-light (6 photos in series are charged, the result impressive)
=> Autofocus with manual refocusing, where the section is enlarged (super function)
=> Video recordings with tracked focus that makes sense finally
What is negative on the camera?
I find there is nothing special, the camera is definitely on the very latest technical standards, often referred to as a standard negative points like price, is not yet wide lens range etc. I do not accept.
For whom the camera was built?
One should know what you're doing. Those looking for just a point and shoot camera, is operated with a smaller camera like the Sony NEX-5N or something better, because you can save money. However, if you look for a slight second camera for serious SLR or already have experience and want to have any more big camera, which is right here.
Meanwhile, it is my Always-In-Camera, and it is me (hopefully) accompany many years. Hab grad times canceled after weeks the camera bag with the 5D + 3 lenses, wow, impressive, how many kilos I have often dragged through the area ...
Perhaps there is one or the other of you indeed in the situation as I previously which camera should I just accept (the selection is great), the perfect camera does not exist, you must always enter into a compromise (the Sony NEX-7 does not fit, unfortunately in my pocket ;-)) - Nikon and Canon specifically overslept here absolutely the trend (hopefully you do not feel like Nokia and smartphone market) - the camera is definitely worth the money (though not cheap) and as said the acquisition financial pain is very quick over ;-)
Update 11.06.2012:
The more I use the camera in real use, the more I love her ... For sports photography a dream by the extremely rapid series photos 24MP are extremely fine for cropping; currently I only use the kit lens, and although some on this lens raises a concern, it is still very versatile.
My erstgedrehtes video only with the NEX-7 you can watch here (included in extremely low light in a rehearsal room with the kit lens) - a music video, respect hard sound (or turns down the sound that's all just about the video) ;-) - the fine, the autofocus focuses automatically (one of the first cameras of this size, which can at all) - Another tip: Opens the Monitor out, so that the camera will not rush hot (and that can happen when longer filmed becomes) ...

And here are two sample photos with Bulp setting (exposure time of 4,5 minutes (), tripod!):
