Whoever hears this concert recording from 1959, will be initially surprised by the quasi family atmosphere, the simplicity of the whole sets and - above all - of indescribable Belafonte's enthusiasm. In the decades that followed his performances have lost none of that. Of course, it was at the time of this recording is technically not on the current state. But the ingenuity of the participants was even then great. Listen again to the left channel: It sounds like you have a micro-hung in the bass - what the whole concert clocked conspicuously inconspicuous. The same seems to apply to the percussions. The band is as well placed as their frontman and the audience will be involved very extensively. (Care: There is also an abridged version of this live recording at several places on the market, which has fallen Some of the live atmosphere to the victims!)
It is not for me to give out tips, because this great recording gets its charm from its totality. Everything has its place, not a single piece acts superfluous or out of place. I must however mention my personal favorite: I've never "Hava Nagila" belongs in such a knotless pronounced Hebrew - and rarely with such verve! Apparently it went many concertgoers as well: When applause for this piece Many seem so much to be excited that it no longer holds on the chairs. One can understand that.
