Despite dissuassive coverage for my taste, it looks a diet guide for housewives under fifty years, this book is for me the benchmark for introductory book to yoga.
André van Lysbeth was a major figure of Yoga in Europe. His book is very faithful to the tradition of Hatha Yoga classic (Rishikesh schools). We learn all the basics of Yoga asanas (postures) to other yogic practices beyond the simple framework of weekly yoga classes.
It allowed me to understand the gestures that I was mimicking my teacher, which led me to improve my daily yoga practice. It is quite austere, and one approach over "objective", analytical and medical yoga in his explanations, and well suited me, since I'm pretty suspicious of "enlightened" and occultism. This first contact has been made, I discovered things that I would have had difficulty accepting in his later books.
I advise beginners asking questions and wanting to affirm and deepen a yoga practice with a teacher.
