Alas, everyone knows the story of Alice in Wonderland so the surprise is blunt: reading each scene, I was parasitized by yet distant images of cartoons or children albums.
But the surprise is complete with * across * the mirror.
Writing continues to play with words and almost always in a big way. The endnotes volume by Jean GATTEGNO are very interesting because they comment on the translation choice of different French versions, explain some pictures (I finally understood the origin of the March Hare and the Mad Hatter, which are not free choice). In short, it is a well documented example of the "literary betrayal" what any translation.
(The preface of the same GATTEGNO is just as interesting and readable.)
(. One note: this edition IS NOT bilingual It is that of POCKET that is - but that does not contain that Alice * ... * not * on the other side ... *) .
