Crumpler Jack Pack Full Photo Backpack - Fotoruckasck - Dk. Mouse Grey / Burned Orange - JPFBP-002 (optional)

Customer Review

After a long search and after I black in the house already had the Kata KT DL-3N1-33 DL Backpack for DSLR Camera (see my review here) I am now been able to find the Crumpler Jack Pack Full.

MY expectation:

For everyday use, I already have a Manfrotto Unica VII styles collection SLR Camera Case (Messenger for DSLR with lens, laptop to 38.1 cm (15 inches), accessories) Bunge cord bag. Top for daily use as a laptop bag with camera compartment. On larger trips or longer trips, however this would nonetheless be quite heavy and uncomfortable. In addition, the space available for the photographic equipment is limited. So I wanted for such tours a flexible backpack, which should, however, also have a compartment for a laptop because I do not want to leave these in the car on round trips. All equipment must therefore fit in with extra space for some food, but the bag should still go through as hand luggage on the plane.

WHAT MUST fit in:

- Canon EOS 550D with battery grip
- Canon 15-85mm USM
- Canon 50mm 1.8
- Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 HSM with 2x extender
- Sigma 8-16mm HSM
- Canon 430 EX flash
- Notebook HP EliteBook 8460p (43.8 x 38.4 x 19.4 cm, about 2 kg)
- Travel tripod Togopod Jana (about 1.5 kg)
- Various other small items
- Day supplies

All fit in (see uploaded). Although the Kata KT DL-3N1-33 offers more space with its extra large compartment above for various things, the Jack Pack makes but with its much more flexible interior layout for it. From the construction of the Jack Pack is more of a traditional photo backpack: Rear laptop compartment and front compartment with a large flexible Innenaufteilern for all the equipment. Have on a shortcut as in Kata one must indeed but how do I do without there in my review written I could this anyway not use it properly and when I'm traveling I store the camera usually only there for longer intermediate routes if I do not use the camera and Keep them handy otherwise hang the belt.

The interior layout in large compartment is arbitrarily implemented and there are provided more than enough intermediate parts. I especially like in the interior layout, the S-shaped piece (third picture on the left) which can be used to pack smaller lenses like my 50mm prime lens or the macro rings perfectly.

This large tray is again covered by a network (see second image) with another zipper. Must To access the camera is therefore only open the zipper of the bag and then the zipper of the net. What looked to me at first glance to be a disadvantage has now been shown to be beneficial. The network I let up a little in order to come to open the camera - but at the same time it covers the other subjects and it can not fly off when I take the camera in a vertical position of the backpack. In addition, all zippers running perfectly.

A tripod can be low weight mounted on the side - that's much more comfortable than on the trailing edge as in Kata. Compared the weight of the tripod when Crumpler Jack Pack is barely noticeable.

About Design is debatable - but I like the designs of Crumpler Jack packs much better (in other color combinations). He is of the form not as clunky as the Kata and looks especially without a tripod at all after Fotorucksack and thus makes thieves mouth non-aqueous.

The orange interior layout helps in the search for small parts in low light.

The risers are super comfortable. The broad waist strap shoulders are relieved and who needs more stability may together buckles the straps before the chest.

For small parts can be found on the inside of the lid compartment with subdivisions for memory cards, for bigger things, such as chargers or power supply, there is also a pocket on the outside on the lid (fifth picture).

Qualitatively, the Crumpler Jackpack class. The material appears to be indestructible and feels again more stable than when at Kata, who also has a very high quality. Heavy backpack is not yet.

WAS LESS LIKE:

Here I have no real weaknesses found, which would be deducted one point it worth, but to me a few points are noticed.

My EOS 550D with battery grip fits so just barely. The camera looks at open pocket on the edge of the camera compartment. The zipper can still be good pull, but you can see outside but then the bump that leaves the camera. With a larger camera with battery grip, like a Canon 5D or Nikon D800 there might perhaps (without having tested it) give problems - without battery grip, however, determined not.

There is no greater specialist for more things like supplies. This can be accommodated in the outer bag, for more than a loaf of bread or even a bottle it is, however, scarce.

The belts for fastening of the stand are too short to reach over my entire tripod. So I mention these only two legs and center column. Also you must the belts, and hence the tripod, always resolve to open the zippers of the camera compartment.

A rain cover is not included. Here the Kata can score.

The price is also higher than in Kata again. When Crumpler Jackpack something surcharge for the brand name and the design you have to pay well.

CONCLUSION:

To return to the question: Is there a perfect photo backpack? - So my answer here still No - but the Jack Pack is so far the best I've found and I arrived at the end of my search for a photo backpack.

UPDATE: I bought a rain jacket this Royal Beach:. Raincover for backpack 30-50 l The price is low and the case fits perfectly.

UPDATE # 2: Now have a tour of some national parks in California and a multi-day city tour of London taken with this backpack. Meanwhile, I am very pleased to have decided on the Jack Pack, instead of the Kata. The abdomen and chest relieve the weight simply enormous. Besides, I can sometimes just the camera hang by the wrist strap at both belts. Dirt seems to bounce off the material. So I am still very satisfied.

UPDATE # 3: I always often another objective need than that which is currently mounted and I have the problem with the battery grip so that the camera is a little high, I have now changed the division so that the camera is stored without lens , The camera is now with the strap up, so takes up less space in height and is easy to grip thanks wrist strap. The division I uploaded here in an image.
