Criterion 1: epub format
Although the Kindle Paperwhite is an excellent device, I still attach importance to format independence. I do not like me to bind only to an ebook seller, so I wanted a device with which one can read the EPUB format.
Criterion 2: Handling
The PRS-T3 weighs including integrated hinged lid just 193 g and is thus comparatively an absolute lightweight. Instead of the hinged lid, I have, however, made me a chic Slimfit Cover and still lie so at very reasonable 220 g. The surface of the reader is provided with a special coating so that they (almost) no longer sees any fingerprints.
The profile takes place Mittes finger wiping or via button. For other devices to browse satisfies a mere tapping the screen, this is unfortunately not the case.
Very pleasant I found the snooze-automatic. You simply fold down the lid and the unit goes into standby mode. The annoying pressing the on / off switch is omitted. If you fold back the cover, you can continue immediately. Absolutely practical.
Criterion 3: Display
By high-resolution resolution (1024 x 758 pixels) producing crisp typeface. The higher resolution makes a clearly discernible difference to the old 800 x 600 pixel display. Although the background will look a bit gray, but can absolutely compete with other readers without integrated lighting. From the impression of a real white book page one is still some distance away.
Criterion 4: Lighting
Future eBook reader generations should probably be probably fitted as standard with an integrated display lighting, as this is extremely useful. Sony has waived this feature. Especially for train or bus travel could really use a good backlight. External LED reading lights are not for everyone, also hide these sometimes quite considerably. Here one can therefore look forward to the technical progress.
Criterion 5: Communication with the PC
I already had in my T2 the problem that the PC does not recognize the Reader. In Device Manager showed up at the standard volume the famous yellow exclamation point, and on the work of the reader was not displayed. Now I know, what was the reason for me. The USB driver is obviously hampered by Acronis True Image. After I have uninstalled the program, works well as communication between the reader and PC.
Criterion 6: Setting options
While the font and font size can be on the reader to adapt to individual needs, but so important options such as margins, line spacing, and text alignment can not be changed. As other models offer significantly more comfort. Will you still not do without these important settings, the freeware Calibre provides the ability to edit the source code Epub. With a few HTML and CSS knowledge one is quickly at the destination and can adjust the ebook according to his wishes. Although this is a bit cumbersome, but worth it.
Conclusion:
If one is willing to familiarize yourself with the secrets of the PRS-T3, then you will have a lot of fun with this device. In everything the Ebook Rader market has been spawned, I'm still at the conclusion: the perfect reader, there are not yet.
