As I'm big machines, I would not hesitate to put half a wipe.
In fact, I cut them in half and suddenly, I put into each machine half a wipe.
It is just as effective. It's not as though I mixed white and color. It happened to me and frankly, linen rubbed off anyway. The wipe "drink" the color excess, not fully anyway! It limits the "breaks" if I may.
When I put my pad in my machine: color and some white (not black or navy blue, or red); my pad is colored gray.
So much wipes practices which limit the damage of cloth that rubs off.
But they are not miraculous if you put white and bright colors well.
I would never knowingly put black and white.
By cons when I wash new colored linen, then I put a full wipe and indeed, the wipe takes a part of the color excess.
Wipes which fill their roles well.
