As always, it is a matter of taste. And when it pleases us, there is always this feeling that leads to act as if it could please everyone. Or we try to keep it that way to please us, as if it could be continuous and timeless way. But in my case, it is clear that it would please me more.
With this second volume - as with all volumes of the official and parallel series of Thorgal - is above all a feeling I seek. Or more precisely an atmosphere I've never really wanted to define so as not totally ruin my reading experience. I just love the naivety that could define the way I read. However, after so many years of adventures, it becomes difficult to remain neutral on the reading of such a cycle.
Contrary to what have been said to the character of Kriss Valnor in my case is not a character we love to hate. Rather, it is a detestable character you find yourself loving. One feels that behind this fearless warrior splendid image hides a sensitive young woman with a difficult liabilities. This is also based on this ambiguity that the love of the fiery Tjall: he falls immediately in love with this woman in it contains all the heroism of codes, but who nevertheless can claim to hero status . It is cruel, selfish, deceitful, manipulative, thieving, murderous, ruthless, ambitious and whatnot. On the other hand it is beautiful, courageous, intelligent, bold, agile, capable of unconditional love. This character is in my view a crucial and symbolic moment of the adventures of Thorgal and his family. But even more, it is still more enigmatic. Thorgal itself is not indifferent to the personality of the young woman. Kriss Valnor greatly contributes to this atmosphere that I like in the thorgalien cycle. So was it necessary to devote a cycle?
According to me, it clearly was not worth it. The first volume, in addition to no longer contribute to the charm of the character and struggling to stage some subtleties (remember some vignettes - including Rosinski in secret - in a look that make a character expressing a heavy sense of consequences) totally demystifies the character of Kriss. If this second volume looks back to more fundamental faithful graphic visual codes established by Rosinski, all (with the form of narration) remains superficial. I can not enter this new universe. In 10 minutes it quickly flared and move on. I have no feeling that famous during and after my reading that fact that I love this series.
Kriss Valnor here could be called Gertrude Metro, the feeling was the same. In all honesty, I have nothing to do with whether there should be codes from the Comics universe or zucchini and if met here. What I feel after reading this tome 2, it's a vacuum. Have ingredients is not enough to make a good dish, the proof is.
Thorgal is not American vigilante; Kriss Valnor even less. They are both vectors of a universe, an atmosphere. These first two volumes remarkably similar to those series without any intelligence, in which we relieve you of any mental effort, starting with the imagination. Chewed us all, pre-digests everything. They tell you everything, everything shows. One that was Kriss Valnor becomes just Kriss Valnor.
If I put 2 stars and not just one, it is for two main reasons.
The first is the qualitative improvement between the 1st and 2nd volumes; Then I attribute the benefit of the doubt with the hope that there is still a break along the way and there is the 3rd or 4th volume this little trick that will make that we are in the process of talking about Kriss Valanor! The one and only, just as a Thorgal. For I must admit that if the second volume is largely better than the 1st, he is not worthy of thorgalien cycle.
I give him two trials, after I drop.
