The first time you touch the NX20 is a bit better in the hand than the NX10. The handle is somewhat more pronounced. My fears were actually that the folding screen is too far out and therefore brings disadvantages in handling, but the new is not bulky.
Through the folding mechanism but one of the two lateral compartments has disappeared, so that the SD card slot is located as in the NX200 next to the battery. Since the new monitor needs more space, the thumb rest has moved slightly to the right, leads the finger but a little better at the AEL button over which I had left at the NX10 and pressed to ever accidentally.
The keys are programmed similar to the NX200 and the NAVIRAD assignment corresponds to the NX200. Otherwise, there are two Custom Keys available.
The main difference for the NX10 is the folding screen, which is a good supplement and fits well with the small OLED display also by design. The new electronic viewfinder is much more usable by the SVGA resolution. Especially during manual focusing (via DMF = Direct Manual Focus) of the EVF is now a real help during fast pan of dark / light he needs to adjust a bit to after.
What else is new:
Well, there's the electronic shutter This is enabled in the setup and is quiet, very quiet and has no noticeable shutter lag. A significant improvement and I see the NX20 as on the NEX7 level.
The NX20 is in contrast to the NX200 after it is ready to focus now on. The NX200 was indeed activated fix, but it took some time before they could take the first shot.
The electronic level is also enabled in the setup and recorded through the Display button as one of the selection options and is functionally ok, but not now 100% accurate to use more as a guideline.
The size of the RAW's correspond to those of the NX200 FW 1.04 the per file are great about 32MB. That's still not really compact but manageable. Nevertheless, this leads as with the NX200 to there known fairly long storage periods.
On the important issue at the camera image quality so much that it is clearly better than the NX10 and is probably also enhanced by some finetuning towards my NX200. The JPEGs from the NX20 are now oversharpened no longer so mercilessly, but unfortunately still only available to about ISO1600. When using the RAW format, the NX20 wins over JPEG good a screen and it can be even as the NX200 easy denoise without loss of detail. Even at low ISO values, the RAW's are consistently a little better in terms of color saturation. In the NX20 is closing in about ISO6400 RAW use. ISO12800 I see only as academically ....
EDIT: Adobe supports the NX20 already with the version LR4.1.
The Kitzoom for NX20 is considerably valent than the NX10 and NX200, as it comes with a metal bayonet and seems a little better, more stable and the haptic ago. My first shots were very sharp and could even 100% Bildauschnitte to.
As a new feature is in the NX20, a built-in WiFi module added, thus to some detailed descriptions:
The new NX use two different methods WiFi.
-> The normal WiFi client that logged in at a router network and thus is able to transmit data actively, so upload to Facebook, Picasa or other social networks or for backups and for mail delivery. Such access point can also produce the Smartphone (tethering), so that the camera uses to send this (via 3G SIM card for example)
The NX20 stores probably the most recently used network (incl the login information for encryption) and tries first to reconnect with this, but as opposed to a PC / laptop / smartphone etc can not I save these configurations. Even my Picasa / Google + credentials are "somewhere" is stored, so that, ideally, the upload of an image is very fast and uncomplicated.
-> WiFi Direct, in contrast, generates an access point in the camera (that is, the plays here the server), where then a WiFi Direct client (ie the SmartPhone for example) to log in and can communicate with the camera via APP's. In the case of the active part is the andoid or IOS device.
The setup sequence is as follows:
In the camera one of the apps must (Remote Viewfinder for remote control of the camera or Mobile Link to photo's from the camera to the smartphone to load) will be activated to enable the AP. In smartphone must then be scanned for networks and a connection can be established to the camera. After that, I can open the actual application in the smartphone.
Well first impression: it works without problems
Second impression: the smartphone applications are basic and are drilled to be a camera like the NX20 (and their users) meet. The smartphone application is still the one that was Last year published for SH100 and is going to set only slightly. Also from the presentation on my 7 "Galaxy Pad I'm a bit disappointed, because the image is not scaled to the 1024 * 600 resolution, but only a copy of the 3" shows image size of the NX20 AMOLED.
So here Samsung needs reloading quickly, otherwise a good first impression will be lost, especially when WiFi one of the discriminator to the CSC should be competition.
What you should know about WiFI yet:
1. The WiFi menu does not exist in EVF. Is just stupid if you have the monitor screen folding inwards.
2. If WiFi is not enabled with the wheel, no Wifi is also there, so those staying viruses, loss of control and worry about what else turn WiFI not and is good. My network / WiFi Scanner will then nix
3. It will support 2.4GHz and 5GHz, should thus first be future-proof. My 5GHz AP, three walls, one floor in between is the NX20
To my review: Had Samsung NX20 this last year brought out it would have been WiFi September without full 5 stars, so there are only four. The reason is simply that I would have expected that Samsung the obvious weaknesses of the NX200 eliminated within 9 months, or would at least mitigated by a faster signal processing and optimization of JPEG's.
For me personally it has been a very good useful camera to take pictures for my style perfectly, because I do not interfere with the weak points, but for others the memory times and the JPEG quality are perhaps more important.
Additional 15.06.2012: Samsung booth yesterday changed the firmware for NX20 (but further put to the download website with the version number V1.00). This version overrides that are shipped with the current NX20. Samsung has finally made it here probably to significantly accelerate the performance in the treatment of RAW formats. The storage time at high speed sequential images is now reduced by half, so I with this firmware can not see any more problems with the RAW's also here. Maybe it creates the NX20 so soon to 5 stars, now it is at 4.5 and on the way there
