I have two copies of the D-Link DWA-131 sticks and have used this on both Windows XP, 7 (x86 & x64) as well as 8.1.
Except for Windows 8.1, each system requires the driver CD. Drivers (latest version) stable - none of the systems was a problem regarding crashes or similar .. In operation of airborne Stick is very warm.. The data throughput is expected to be higher when promised n standard.

The real disaster of this stick is the bundled software: This has constantly trouble finding the set networks and to connect. After the start or resume from standby, it takes like a minute and longer until a connection is made. Sometimes the connection is sometimes more slowly during operation, which can only be solved by the removal of the stick and then reinserting. This can in turn connect to a driver issue, but that occurs on any system without exception.

My conclusion: It works - so anyway.
