I use it as a switch, NAS, and to bring wireless client in the living room to my network-enabled A / V receiver and my little media player to the internet and to provide them with various media. Thus, one can nicely enjoy his Urlaubsfotos- and videos on TV or streaming via eg Spotify music. All this through a single device.
All this would be great if the device would work and the operation was not such a spasm. Some things were already mentioned:
- The housing is made of cheap plastic soft that gets scratches quickly. One can imagine it like a CD. Just as sensitive to scratches.
- The web interface is a disaster. As someone has probably thought that it probably "cool" would be things like AJAX / Javascript and Co. to use an interface to conjure that: is slow, confusing and not compatible with any browser. A simple interface would have looked here miracles. Seemingly probably one of the developers or project manager has too read magazines about innovative frameworks and thought it would turn on and break do well, everything incorporate possible.
- Unstable system: After a restart of going at least relatively quickly, the system runs absolutely tadelos. After a few days or frequent usage are beginning to various services rumzuspinnen and crashing. In my case it is the Windows share on the Samba service, which refuses access first anonymous users and later completely crashes. Thus, one may restart every few days so that you can use the full-featured device again. For a NAS, this is an absolute no-go. How do you use a network storage, without being able to access this ???
- The NAS says having to access the hard disk every few minutes. This manifests itself in the startup disk. Here you can hear a buzzing and later a clearly audible clacking noise. The whole as more than 24 times a day. The demise of the hard disk is thus inevitable. Since only limited hard disk "parked" or off and can be switched on. This is because the operating system is stored on the hard drive and not as usual on a Flash memory. As an operating system wants wegschreiben now and then some data, the hard drive is brought out of sleep mode. Another disadvantage is that is excluded a disk change. Anyway, there is also a nice Grantiesiegel to give later, can not extend the plate without breaking the seal.
- Firmware updates seem to be probably not designed for troubleshooting. The last update introduced the Timemaschinsupport for Apple devices. Super a new feature and a bunch of not functioning. LaCie has just died for me. Concept and Idea super, implementation under all.
I will use the NAS up to his death and me later probably have to buy more than 1 replacement device (NAS, Switch, Wireless Client / access point)
PS: If the Wireless Space want times not connect to the wireless network, it may be due to the WLAN password. Had mine simplify at least, because the characters were not accepted.
