James Blunt 007

All the Lost Souls (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Published in 2007, the 2nd CD of the singer songwriter, the after the great success of his first album "Back To Bedlam" great expectations have been established.
In fact, this album was typical James Blunt again. And as such, it is also up to you.
Authentic makes the singer again that he has here (more or less ballads) co-written at least in each of the 10 songs, which also the impression that Blunt is an anomaly at the time in the music business, underlines.
The CD is only about 38 minutes, but this is not a problem; because less is more well known.
Some differences to the predecessor album there: first it seemed a bit sad as its predecessor, which has supposed to do with the fact that Blunt said to have written many of the songs here in an apartment that had no heat (an interview, according to Blunt's mother is incidentally often consult with him why he always sing so sad, and if that was to do with the fact that his mother would have done in his youth "something wrong").
Also falls on here: Blunt tried here seem to break new ground, but remains cautious. One gets the impression, Blunt wants different, on the other hand wants his old fans abe not alienate maybe here, and also receives from the record company not legally permitted to experiment too much.
Another feature of the album is that you him the enormous expectations that weigh on Blunt notes. It comes here gelentlich to very calculating acting Try to make on "corny" mainstream radio capability. Fortunately this venture is still relatively cautiously expressed, so that this process old "Blunt purists" should not be too scare.
Nevertheless, this approach is at music fans controversial as this fear his music too "pure product" to make, whose primary task it is supposed to be then, poss waxed to rippling in the background everywhere. But this is the tribute that most musicians believe they should pay their music as her she (and many others) nurturing profession to remain popular in the future. The music industry is just apparently of the opinion that too much authenticity could harm to personal songs to sales; a "secure sales strategy" is just about the personal will of the artist. (And this will remain mainly) If an artist wants to be a "mass phenomenon" today, he must produce mainly for the radio; then comes the audience; and almost last his own will (like is indeed among younger Albums of Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow or eg Katy Perry noted that with such mainstream bonds also try to stay in business. not noticed?). Finally, will the artist and the record company of their music (good) life.
And on the other hand one can not blame it to the artist when he with such "vermainstreamter" music especially appeals to many people. Too many people believed the music of Blunt would otherwise be too sad. For the lower part of the people is Blunt's approach, for example, then "too commercial", and they reject the head off completely, because they consider him as an old Nirvana, Ramones- and Pixies- fan then for too unbelievable; they expect more indie rock, they accuse him of betraying hereby and for purely commercial reasons for the Rocker Meinstream- audience often makes as indie on gentle cuddle singer.
One also wonders how authentic Blunt despite its enormous talent really is. How many songs are really "personal"? And the melancholy and romantic and not sleepy at least partly in reality calculation? For Blunt (and his record company) apparently do not seem to be interested in wanting to make anyone afraid. Everything is always nice harmless enough, so no one really upset about it (although the lyrics mE usually still clearly stand out from the pop average fare).

But Blunt fans will also like this album, which is not worse than in my opinion, "Back to Bedlam". And finally, attempts of this kind, to do something new, to advocate. The trouble is, not only to maintain high quality, but to repeat not always. Here I find this intention succeeded.
. But had despite the professionalism with which this album was recorded, and the album in many important charts the No. 1 climbs, stayed sales - though still significant - compared to "Back to Bedlam" far behind. But it does not have to do with an "objective" reduction in the quality of the material. This may have to do with less advertising, which was made for the album.
No song is in my opinion poorly here; even if you have some hearing here on several occasions to discover a "feel" for it.
"1973" was successful (and radio-compatible) Single Lead. But the other songs have here quite potential.
These are perhaps the least the other singles of the album, "Same Mistake" (acts but quite a bit unimaginative, and as "Blunt average food"; to create for me a little abortive attempt "hell-bent" a radio-friendly ear candy) and "Carry You Home" (slightly better ballad that might be a little reminds the no longer young listeners to the "Cranberries"), which also Everyone should know from the radio now, but (not entirely incomprehensible?) pretty bad in have cut off the charts.
The gentle piano ballad "One of the Brightes Stars" is also very popular; mE Blunt but here a little too brash and uninspired plagiarized by the Bee Gees. Can greet the 70s.
One of the best songs that is very sad, but in very varied "I can not hear the music".
"I'll Take Everything" is a relatively flat, but more upbeat mid tempo number.
"Give me some love" is the fastest song and not the worst song on the album.
The ballad "I really want you" is then quite classic James Blunt, who perhaps because of it looks a bit unimaginative.
"Shine On" begins as a very slow guitar ballad, and then increases more and more one of the best songs on the album.
"Annie" finally holds ready all sorts of bonds that we think we have heard already as a listener in different songs, but this does not make the song bad.

CONCLUSION: James Blunt "007" is not "08/15"! Overall, a very good job again, proves the Blunt once again that he is currently one of the most inventive singer / songwriter. To be heard definitely deserves!

PS: women who see in Blunt only the soulful singer cuddle (and appreciate) should consult the texts See all times precisely!

PPS: Which album is now the best of James Blunt, I can not answer. Each album is different accents; Each album is therefore in my opinion good for themselves - each in his own way.
