Johann Christian Bach (1735-1782): classicism gallant British time

6 6 Symphonies Concertos (CD)

Customer Review

The last of the four musicians son of JS Bach settled on English soil in 1762 where he stimulated for two decades the artistic and social life, binding on the Court of Queen Charlotte and the British aristocracy.
Published in 1765, the six Sinfonias op.3 date from the beginning of this fruitful period and represent a pinnacle of classical style.

Variously bright-slow-fast structure influenced the Italian Baroque genre, these works grow sonata ternary form in the initial allegro, the gushing vitality irresistibly seduced the ear.
No boredom to fear as the imagination of the composer captures the interest by intoxicating melodic turns, pithy rhythms, safe instrumentation for the effect.

Captured in January 1970, the interpretation of the Academy exalts the alacrity and sensitivity of these pages with a shiny color palette are shimmer harpsichord Simon Preston, the curve of the strings, the trembling voice of the oboe, gallantry flutes (the Andantino of 3!)
Some music lovers believe that Neville Marriner signed here one of the best albums from the remarkable and innumerable discography. That says it all!
If you want to deepen your discovery of Johann Christian, I recommend the other three collections symphony David Zinman engraved with the Chamber Orchestra of the Netherlands (republished in the same collection but unfortunately difficult to find: JC Bach: Sinfonias, Op. 6, 9, 18; Overture "The calamità")

This double album is completed with six Concertos op.13, here played the fortepiano by Ingrid Haebler, eminent specialist Mozart repertoire that also recorded for Philips the other two cycles: Johann Christian Bach: Keyboard Concertos 12 & Op 1 Op. . 7).
His reading is seen delicately nuanced robustly accompanied by Capella Academica its founder Eduard Melkus leads from the bow. These Viennese interpreters defend a pleasantly ... Viennese approach, without sentimentality. A delight: the Andante of the Concerto No. 4 supported by pizzicato ...
The splendid taken its help fill the pleasure of listening.
