Suddenly, the attractive price is not that much ...
Especially since I just lost another drive after 18 months of use (WD Red NAS 2TB), but that one is still under warranty. This not gonna return my data, but at least I could obtain warranty with WD and not be able to claim a replacement product (I have yet to test this experience SAV WD).
Does the risk that unsecured is less expensive that a possible failure?
If this failure occurs very late and even with a warranty, WD does not really deliver replacement (I will test it this week ...), then yes you for you ~ 40 euros less it matters.
So, I reasonably can not put a better rating and I ask myself to return the disk and buy another one with a warranty. Because losing ~ 4TB of a sudden, it can hurt reconstruction time (risk), stress (if the backup is outdated ...) and, probably, almost obligation to perform backups another system (NAS liability?) or to double the equipment and the volume (but with no guarantee drives the cost would be also reduced: -) ...)
In short, the considerations to be taken into account depending on the nature of the data and their significance.
Each of judge!
