We Shall Overcome - The Seeger Sessions (Audio CD)

Customer Review

"The Boss" with me has in fact generally always easy laurels, but from this CD, I'm really excited! At first startled me from the Title "Seeger Sessions". 60s flower power music? Then the store belongs ... I was not thrilled. But this was clearly the super bad headphones there!

Pushed home into the player, leaning back and listening ... As a former member of a band I was absolutely fascinated by the atmosphere. This CD distributed real mood. The songs are a far cry from what the title promises. Only "Jacob's Ladder" and "We Shall Overcome" are pieces of Seeger. The rest are traditionals, partly interpreted and vice writes copy from the Boss again. And the result is really worth listening to.

The sound quality is quite good. This is according to the booklet live recordings. And you can hear that, but this is very positive meaning. The sound exudes the charm still well known to me in the band practice room. You can feel the fun that the musicians had in the recordings. The sound is "unadulterated", rather than, as nowadays too often knows it from mass-market studio recordings ago, sterile and "beautiful." In addition to singing and guitars have taken part more violins, a banjo, trombone, trumpet and Co.. In order to enjoy the Arrangement correctly, the stereo requires a good momentum, otherwise threatens the sound at certain points in a bustle to lead (see above, keyword "headphones).

My favorites on the CD are the songs "Jesse James," "John Henry" and especially "O Mary Do not You Weep": pure joy of playing, you can hear that!

The DVD contains the entire album in PCM (audio), ne 30-minute documentary about the production of the pieces, and 6 (collectively cut) videos from the original recordings. You feel like you live there! Several times I took out my guitar and played with!

Last I have to take up the cudgels for the here often rated as poor CD case. It is true that a cardboard sleeve of the CD quality is not worthy. However, it gives the CD a certain warmth when one brings out the booklet while listening. It fits better in my opinion on the CD than a 08/15 plastic sleeve.

Conclusion:

This CD is one of the best I've bought lately.
