In short! I finally read that book long awaited ... and I was not disappointed! He became my favorite of the series tied with "Divergent". The first 3 are new and exciting take all their promises in helping us better understand how bruised and battered child has turned into a strong young man, charismatic and intimidating eyes of many. The allusions scattered here and there in the original 3 volumes are well connected here. And I found the character I had identified at the outset: the perfect embodiment of "divergent", one that does not fit into any box because it is too complex and multiple and free thinking. This being who, despite appearances, is more than bold, more than altruistic, more than anything. In many ways, I found that more divergent Tris and this new series confirms this impression.
[Small spoiler ** ** Allegiant]
So I am even more frustrated by the revelation about him in "Allegiant"! it does not stick! Or, it may stick if we can explain this "anomaly" which talks about Matthew but the book never gives us a real explanation. Personally, I have found one. One, which would explain the "anomaly" of Tobias as "super" divergence Tris and I sincerely think Veronica Roth has material to write a sequel to "Allegiant" (a suite where even Tris would have its place, if so, believe -Me, it is quite possible!)
[/ Spoiler ** small ** Allegiant]
The new 4th "The Traitor", passing along chronologically "Divergent", although it is longer provides fewer revelations. However, it is great to see some key scenes from the first novel told here, from the point of view of Tobias. Unfortunately, this is also the new most frustrating because it starts a bit in the middle of nowhere and ends the same way. Personally, I read in parallel with 3 exclusive scenes present at the end of the collection (the first 2 are chronologically situated before the start of "The Traitor" and 3rd between 2 scenes) for the news sometimes referring to things introduced in these three scenes.
Aside from that, it's interesting how Tobias came to suspect a plot by scholars (Jeanine) and bold (Max) and the light is finally shed on the circumstances of the arrival of Eric among the leaders of the faction.
Some characters too little sketched in three novels are gaining in depth with this collection.
Thus, we discover:
- The friendship that has always existed between Tobias and Tori (hardly mentioned by Tobias friendship in Volume 3, Tori is nevertheless one of the few to know all its secrets)
- How Shauna was a close friend at least just as Zeke,
- How Max has always shown more interest for him than for Eric
- How Amar proved to be a real mentor, a protector.
This would be perfect in any point, however, without this gross error that shocked me (after "Careful, Tris" but not corrected in "The Traitor") and Myra ??? Four did not 8 but 9 insiders !! The girlfriend Edward was simply erased from this version of the story! How is this possible? How Veronica she could zap one of his characters like that? Certainly, Myra was especially office extra, but it was still one of Tris opponents during physical evaluations ... it seems to me it would have been a mistake so easy to avoid ...
Anyway, it's still a book to devour end to end.
I will make just a flat, a disappointment.
At the end of my tome Allegiant, a pub announced the next release of this collection of stories, not 4 but 5 spoke of "short stories", the last being "Free Four".
Not present this story in my collection, I have investigated to discover that "Free Four" was actually a scene (of the same kind as exclusive 3 at the end of the collection?) Who recounted the episode of the point knives launched Four of view. Where is this scene ??? Why not have it included as advertised ?? Here I am frustrated to discover that there is still written on the Divergent universe that I have not!
