Ms. Marvel Volume 1: No Normal (Paperback)

Customer Review

The Story
While all the YA world still to the necessary diversity (the haste must be found in my eyes) requires the comic industry is already a little further on. This diversity only to the variety will not be the right way, shows this first volume of Ms. Marvel very clear.
The sixteen year old Kamala Khan is an ordinary teenager, were it not for the fact that their parents originally come from Pakistan and Muslims.

I find it of course finally to have a great protagonist who does not have the dimensions 'privileged' '' and is whiter than a bucket Alpinaweiß.
Still, I find it a great pity that Kamala and her family are nothing more than a conglomeration of all the clichés that one can have of Muslims only.

Unusual eating habits (the prohibition of pork, alcohol ...) - check.
Other or as they are called Kamala itself '' strange '' Holidays - check.
About Strict parents, her daughter (of course, just to protect them) forbid to go to parties, to meet boys ect. - Check.
A devout, older brother - check.
Threats of the parents that Kamala is to entertain because of their rebellious behavior with the local imam - check.

Added to this is also that Kamala herself wants to be different, that is white and blond-haired like other girls that she rebels against her parents forbidding her everything.

Somehow I can understand Kamala behavior yes, on the other hand, it is just simply shown very clichéd.

Of these times seen me this first volume has pretty much. It's pretty much at the beginning directly in the solid and there remain only a few breathers.
Meanwhile, although it is sometimes a bit confused because of the many questions that will arise due to the events, ignored and not answered, but it's a lot of fun Kamala to accompany, as she tries with its newly acquired superpowers deal.
The Inventor then draws towards the end from already the first great villain, the Kamala in future probably have to bring down.
As already written above, a little less clichéd representation and No Normal would get full marks from me, so, however, I regret to deduct a point.

The artwork
I like the illustrations by Adrian Alphona incredibly good, it is the perfect blend of comically and realistic. Particularly striking are the many large-scale panel or the fantastic chapters cover (which is actually the cover of each issue are so) I could watch for hours.
And also the dynamics in the few fight / action scenes can really be seen.
To complain, however I would have that the faces of some prospects seem sometimes a little crooked and distorted, or even blurred.
Otherwise, I have nothing to complain about.

As an introduction to the world (or rather the multiverse xD) the Marvel superheroes can I Ms. Marvel recommend, and who otherwise only read YA books and even access to a comic want to be overwhelmed without equal who can access safely. Ms. Marvel - No Normal provides nämliches some of what is already known from a young adult sector.
