As a huge fan of Gran Turismo and generally realistic racing simulations course I had to buy GT5 me.

The game impresses with the game modes, the driving experience and the Detailträue. A big treat for me: The long-distance races. For me is a 3 lap race through a fictitious course anything but simulation, although still feel the cars as realistic.

However, after I've been playing well going through the game, unfortunately fall far too many negative points to the weight which are intended mainly for a real fan Simracing a no-go.

The developers boast of more than 1,000 cars, an uncompromising simulation and yet, for Simulationsnetusiasten the game is only limited somewhat. Here below a Detailed overview of those aspects that have made for me Gran Turismo for wannabe Simulation:

Among the cars: Who bought the game, will soon notice that there are -cars in Gran Turismo 5 "standard" and "premium". Standard cars have no cockpit view, only after an update a Siluette of the cockpit. The textures are much worse and the models not nearly as detailed as that of premium cars. For most of 1000 cars, you realize that these were taken from previous GT games. The textures and models are just at the level of Gran Turismo 4. Too bad, because in all the screenshots from Gran Turismo 5 only about 150 premium cars show that these are really chic and in detail, as is the cockpit view. However, the remaining cars are partly already pathetic. I'm doing this just to the principle that they advertise here with detailed graphics and 1000 cars, but then really brings only a minimal fraction of the 1,000 cars the advertised quality with it.

Among the tracks: There are many well known but many Europeans not so interesting racetracks there. Here is an absolute must is the Nordschleife which was the original well modeled damn. Likewise, Circuit de la Sarthe (Le Mans). In both you can drive a 24-hour race. All other routes, however, are of little interest for Europeans. Very pity: The two routes mentioned above are the ONLY that bring a day / night cycle with them. All other circuits are always to drive only during the day. What is even more unfortunate: Only a small handful of race tracks ever have a dynamic weather system. Ie. On most race tracks, there is no change in the weather, even transitions between day and night. It's just all day sunny and dry. Well ....

Among the long-distance race: interesting feature for people who are looking for a real challenge. However, if you just want to go in the 24 hour race, is braked quickly. This one unlocks 40 (24h Nürburgring Nordschleife) until level 35 (24h Le Mans) and Level. On good German: You have to endlessly upwards levels play or be allowed to drive the 24-hour race around the tracks. A separate 24-hour race, we must not set in arcade mode. The self-defined race, you can not run for a certain time, but only on rounds. With a maximum of 200 rounds is final. Too bad so expensive it would not, not insert a race at a defined time into play. What moreover still an eyesore is: It entered the race of Gran Turismo to always 12 players / cars. Ie. You drive a race with a maximum of 12 cars. Has ever seen who of you in Le Mans 24 Hours with 12 cars? No. A 24-hour race on the Nordschleife with 12 cars? No. On the Nordschleife even drive more than 100 cars from different classes at the same time 24. Run. 100 would not have to be, but at least more than 12. What then still an eyesore is: on the Nordschleife driving prototypes, no slower GT cars. Since when closed prototypes as Bentley Speed ​​8, Toyota GT One and Peugeot 908 HDi FAP run at the 24h race with on the Nordschleife? Unfortunately that really tarnished the Feeling.

The real race car: When "Rennenthusiast" I especially like the real racing cars. So no road cars tuned to is no longer, but the race cars that look like a racing car also in the cockpit. 90% of premium cars, however, are road cars not convey the feeling of a racing car. I have no desire to drive a 24-hour race in a standard Golf GTI on the Nordschleife - the need to be a true race car. These methods are also in Gran Turismo 5 - but mostly these are the Asian Super GT car with the seats on the right side. Only a small handful of cars have the left seat as the Ford GT LM Spec II or the two Nissan GT-R (Schulze Motorsport and GT Academy Edition). Nothing against the whole Japanese Super GT's, as are 1-2 good cars here. But I would have liked a few proper race cars, not only road vehicles which are souped up and then but only are road vehicles. For me, it also dampens the race feeling.

The Setup: The setup is useful in Gran Turismo 5, but nothing more. Those like me who has played GTR2 for years and once the setup options of GTR2 with Gran Turismo 5 compares, but quickly realize: That which can be adjusted in Gran Turismo 5 is pillepalle. Some settings can be done that are worth a lot, but that was it already.

The tire physics: The car feels on the tire in dry conditions quite good, really good successful handling and intervention in the vehicle setup are clearly noticeable. Nevertheless wets need not in this game. It's a joke, but reality in Gran Turismo 5: one drives with soft racing slicks better on flooded roads as with Indermediates and wets. That can not be. We fight for total genässter street slicks much better on the Nordschleife than with the wet tires. That can not be.

The pit lane: The animations are already done quite well and look chic, but we must not go into the pit lane itself and you can not, such as in GTR2, alternating with virtual racers. So we have if not a friend will be there, playing a 24-hour race alone. One can indeed save this and continue playing the next day, but then you sit halt when driving an hour each day, soon have a month on the 24 hour race. At the end of a 24h race (which, incidentally, is also in GTR2 with waaaay more than 12 cars per race), it is seen that some cars had accidents, other cars is again successfully been an engine failure and the bulk of the fleet through the race. Similarly, there are at GTR2 safety car phases and the yellow flag in each sector. This is realism in a simulator, not what Gran Turismo 5 offers since.

The sound: Really uneven, as with the car details. There are several race cars with really good sound, other race cars, however, the sound like a vacuum cleaner tuned. To something then listen in endurance racing somehow not fun anymore. What the boys have developed there, I wonder now ... If you compare the times with the car sounds from YouTube videos are not even rudimentarily similar. Of course, here are the 150 premium cars a good sound, but the other cars which were imported from Gran Turismo 4, sounding just as stupid as it was on the Playstation 2. Since even the old GTR2, which is now really getting old , but concerning the sound better.

But what is also quite funny:
Details, such as that brand new engines still have to retract until they get the full performance in the game with it. One off and switch to the oil must, because if it is too old also loses the engine performance. If you already know how many kilometers god has driven a race car, you can also repair the engine again, to get back rauszukitzeln more horsepower. So the cars lose the mileage a bit of horsepower, but what you can again pick out with the engine repair. These are for me simply points that may be at a serious simulation NOT. That Gran Turismo 5 is here betietelt with a lot of self-confidence and self-praise as "The Real Driving Simulator", but in the end only bugs, empty promises and half content (for many fee-based DLC's) brings, is for me an absolute no-go. To date (as of July 24, 2013) is no patch appeared, which corrects the bugged wets. The total is really a poor performance and has let my dream burst a bit: Finally obtain a simulator like GTR 2, which nevertheless offers modern graphics.

The game is fun and I can still recommend it to anyone "Normalo gamers", but to all Sim-Racer out there: Stay with GTR2, rFactor, Live for Speed, or changes equal to modern games like iRacing. GT5 is after all only a "real driving simulator", where that is the case even when slicks on a dry track.

Overall, for me a disappointment because so much potential has been discarded by the developers - just amazing.

We can only hope that Gran Turismo 6 not completed so. (What I unfortunately strongly go out)
