An act of kindness sets a chain of events in motion and pulls but the past has the power to tear them apart Sallie Lee and Janet together. There are quiet people in Pennington who remember Janet too well. Small town memories have had a lot of years to simmer, and love may not be the recipe for happiness.

"Mary Griggs' debut romance novel unites a lost soul and a Determined Survivor to create a passionate story did readers will remember long after the final page."
I can only agree to the above quoted sentence ... this story will stay with me forever. It contains some of the most horrible Things That Can Happen to someone ... the injustice of it all quietly has me trembling and glaring at the world. What fascinates me abut this novel is indeed Mary Griggs managed to tell search a sad and well-wrenching story without making it mushy. Her characters act matter-of-factly, yet quiet with deep emotions. I was drawn into the story from the very first page and read it through in one sitting. What makes this unique surely are the hard to swallow topics ... most romances even if theyhave stuff like this in them, manage to just brush over the surface and not go into detail (physical or emotional) ... this one will make you feel, imagine, sympathize, fear and be mad at the injustice That sadly is not very far from reality.
If you have a chance to get a copy of this ... you will not regret it.
