This device does not have the sharpness and light output as the Samsung LED projector, but you can, thanks to the countless times higher contrast even better daytime television and watch movies with the LG device with lower light output. The picture looks less washed out. The gray day something in the "background" occurs because all the colored image content are clearly distinguished from each other.
In the evening in the dark, the unit will play then from its full potential and is clearly superior to the black level and contrast. Unfortunately an inferior lens / Focus is built which I think is the Samsung despite theoretically lower resolution has the much better sharpness.
The rainbow effect can be clearly seen in this unit, but does not bother me strangely so much as with lamp projectors with color wheel. The Samsung has no RBE.
3D works great with this device, even if it only supports without Firmwaremod XGA @ 120Hz. Negative would be to say that picture settings can only be made externally in 3D mode.
The volume is comparable to the Samsung both Eco and in Bright mode. Since the LG but is much smaller - clear advantage.
Conclusion: If LG more rather than on quality rely on appearance and this beamer missed a reasonably good optics with zoom, I would without hesitation 5 stars given for this reference instrument.
Among the LED projectors, which are suitable for film and television, there are next to this one hardly a serious alternative. The Samsung is indeed sharper and brighter, but still the picture in which LG is simply superior to contrast and black level. In addition, one may have the disadvantage of a 4: 3 resolution not forget the Samsung. At least 16:10 or better native 16: 9, since the experience with the Samsung absolutely necessary nowadays.
Accurate calibration should be carried out urgently. But since very many adjustment possibilities are available, everyone can adjust the image his claims accordingly. So many options and Detailleinstellungen especially among the experts profiles are already very classy at such a cheap product.
Edit: The 3D mode works only via HDMI / VGA in XGA @ 120Hz mode over HTPC or laptop / PC and a 3D software player such as. Stereoskopic Player. In theory goes WXGA 120Hz @ VGA with a small modification of the driver for the LG PA70G.

Edit 2:
Unfortunately 24p does not work properly despite Item description. It jerky slightly. But that is chip-related and applies to all Pico projector of this kind. It was not until Dark Chip 3 does real 24p.
A "misinformation" refers to the native resolution of the projector. This is actually 1140 x 912 and not 1280 x 800, but this is simply denied by LG. :)
Edit 3 (14.04.2013):
NOTE: After correcting the LG insufficiently aligned lens by readjustment (expansion and realignment) and a playback of native 16: 9 source material using a neumodifizierten inf file (1280x720 resolution otherwise the projector can natively only 1280x800 and then scaled to 16: 9), the sharpness EXTREMELY has improved. The sharpness now corresponds to the Samsung SP-F10M and even more so because the resolution is indeed higher.
Thanks to my new improvements the focus can now be greatly reduced in the settings to 60 to 65 instead of 80 or 90. As a result, the picture improved greatly.
Another addition to my above settings also still on my 120Hz 16: 9 native playback. The 5: 5 Pulldown with activated "real cinema" in the Advanced Settings works in 120Hz mode with correct unscaled 16: 9 playback 100% RBE negating. If you switch from real cinema then you can see clearly when compared to RBE. If you switch it back on -> no RBE not even minimally more.
My present made under the above modifications preferences:
