A Life (Paperback)

Customer Review

Maupassant ... Just the name, and we remember the accursed moments of our school! Our French bin ... Finally, we prefer to forget all this literary period because it is too linked to bad memories ... And yet, what could be more modern than a novel or a story by Maupassant?
Jeanne is a young girl who leaves the convent. She dreams only of one thing: finding love. A young man comes to dine at home, is arranged a walk on the beach at Etretat, and this is our Jeanne who falls as dry. Are connected then the disappointments, tears and bitterness that will plunge into a deep loneliness ... Until the birth of her son.
Banal love story disappointed, of lost illusions. The man's treachery eats pure souls, something that everyone knows, nothing original. But in the writings of Maupassant, these banalities take turns tragic, sulfur and even ultra-stressful! One begins a friendship and a deep compassion for Jeanne, and sometimes we'd shake like a coconut, because such characters become pure de Maupassant, indolent and disillusioned. A life, a novel, unforgettable.
