Recovery of the operating system:
After a warning you will be prompted to make the DSM (.pat) file available. This had to have a higher version number than the DSM of the CD. So downloading Synology.com and that was about it. Then were all of me made changes (.ssh folder authorized_keys etc.) away. So everything clean relaunched.
Disk Crash:
Disk1 removed during operation - DS starts to beep, status LED flashes orange. All data on the DS, however, are available.
On the management site but is waiting the memory manager with bad news.
It wait 3 Notifications to me: Volume1, swap and root are in "degraded" state.
Button "beep" in Storage Manager creates only times peace.
Memory Manager displays:
Faulty Volume
Proposal for repair
Status of the individual discs - here you can see that Disk1 missing
The disc was removed and reinserted on a dock partly gewiped in the current DS. In Memory Manager "Managing" there's the point "repair disk" - you have (expand Raid to a disc, others Raid type and more) here also some options available. The repair process begins and the status LED turns green again.
The unit is now working continuously on the repair. The Disk_Manager shows the progress as a percentage. So you know immediately that will take hours. While the unit worked intensively it was never loud or hot. Although the repair process ran, I could copy in both directions. Trying a DSM update was rejected "capacity The volume is" on the ground. This shows that the DS accepts my copy commands and prioritized. After about 4-5 hours the repair was done. Files on the DS compared to the original files - everything is ok.
I can recommend the DS411slim fully.
Update 14.Dez.2012
After more than more than a year in operation, it was not a single incident. Once there was a system update from 3.x to 4.0 DSM - that went without complaint over the stage. In order for the software range has been extended to cloud storage. A couple of times there were also program updates for Media Server and other software. Were it not for this software update, I would not have updated this review. One tends to forget the Kistl, once it is installed and takes for granted that it just works as it should.
My 5-point opinion has not changed.
