In general, the songs are approaching again the terms of the studio versions, which I find very refreshing times (the Stones have the bad habit, live at the end of the reef auszunudeln endlessly eg Satisfaction); quite possible that a number of songs for cosmetic reasons were cut for the CD. At Brown Sugar but you have totally nonsensically the intro riff downshifts from 4 to two passages and cut out the 3. Refrain entirely; something must not happen. From Rocks off the 3rd verse was cut without any perceptible distress so that an ugly scar remains amputation; unfortunately missing the last 16 bars of Paint it black and Chuck Leavells Honky Tonk piano solo in Honky Tonk Women, the unabridged versions can be found at least on the "Four Flicks" DVD.
Gimme Shelter there was already similar to "No Security"; I think the version on the Wild Horses Maxi-CD ('95) is anyway unmatched. In Honky Tonk Women can hear how even Sheryl Crows nervous flutter given the opportunity to communicate with the Stones on stage, very personable.
The real reason to buy the 12 tracks on CD 2, including 10 were to have official live versions never - finally something new !! (Beast of Burden gave it ever live (as a B-side of Going to a Go-Go ('82) and "Rarities: 1971-2003"), and a full 35 seconds from Everybody was ... '65 on the '' Got . Live if you want it to hear "EP) Rock me Baby is the obligatory Blues; pity that the Stones had not the size to choose a much more exciting version of the AC / DC guitarist. On You do not have to mean it I could do without, well. Ron Wood is not Mick Taylor, although he is in the solo of Can not you hear me knocking a few licks with him "borrow", but I am delighted with this exciting version of SAX and even harmonica solo. Courageous and encouraging even Worried about you, even though - or perhaps because - Mick no longer all falsetto sounds so very true ... ;-)
Highlights for me are the dynamic version of That's How Strong My Love Is (Pain in my Heart is briefly quoted), the intimate The Nearness of You, that seems tailor-made for Keith, and the party full stop Everybody needs somebody to love ( with Solomon Burke as a guest singer), the like That's How Strong My Love Is gets just again very skillfully appended a second circuit.
The setlists of concerts on the parallel published 4 DVD Box "Four Flicks" however are varied considerably. The cover again ... forget it. The booklet is also a bit unimaginative ... The dream of a perfect second Stones live album (for "Get yer Ya-Ya's Out") will probably remain forever unfulfilled. Fun "Live Licks" but all.
PS The live versions of Thru and Thru (on "Rarities: 1971-2003"), Dance Pt. 1 and Before They Make Me Run (Biggest Mistake Maxi-CD) and Hand of Fate (Biggest Mistake Vinyl Single) would have had even loose space on CD no. 2. As a collector I have to after the Japan-CD If you can not rock me hold out as a bonus ...
Overall, I find the plate (unlike some Mitrezensenten) very well produced, very punchy, full of a warm bass, all very far forward, and Mick's good to hear. By the way: on the remaster of 2009, the songs are still slightly more compressed than in 2004, but without copy protection - and at the end of You do not have to mean it is now Keith thanked the audience.
