I bought the BD player year ago about 1. Premise then was to acquire a well-equipped, power-saving but cost-Player. The requirements very well fulfilled the Sony. At first I was very fond of the device, but then came gradually the drive noise to wear. However, the noise is not at every Bluray and can also vary according to occur. But Here I distinguish the sounds that can be heard when you load the Bluray and those who are perceived during the playing time of the movie. If a Bluray loaded, the operating noise bothers me very little. Although this is relatively loud. Some Bluray but I have also during the movie really loud vibrating noise that tarnish the viewing pleasure. I have tried to dampen the players and to absorb the vibrations, but without much success. It is also not be delimited in some specific movies, but have a feeling that just newer movies cause this problem.
Actually, it's no wonder that such such noise occur. The player is as compact and thin walls that no damping of the drive is present. Even the very low weight contributes to the vibrations can not be minimized (unlike for example in the luxury class, where alone the weight and drive suspension already do much to minimize the noise).
Therefore, the player is only as a playback device for media, who come from a USB stick or hard drive. But he also gets 2 stars because it works wonderfully. Also image nor sound are excellent. DVD's are very nice upscaled, which is why he really scores in this discipline.
