Torment: Book 2 of the Fallen Series (Paperback)

Customer Review

New atmosphere with this Volume 2: we leave California in a school named Shoreline, and leave with regret the very dark and gothic Sword & Cross. Luce's life is once again threatened, Daniel has chosen to isolate and place it under the protection of the Nephilim. Now this separation is not the taste of the girl. She increasingly need answers and seeks to understand its past. She then discovers the existence and power of the shadows (aka The Proclaimers) and drove straight ahead, without thinking about the consequences.

We must immediately raise the issue of this saga - heroin, Lucinda Price, is unbearable. (She makes me think of Nora strangely in Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick.) This is a very kind lady, charming but exists only through her relationship, which is so syrupy my eyes I find it exasperating. Result is sewn clichés and so immature, I admit I took it upon myself repeatedly. This is the stand of the saga - low endearing characters and soft knee, bundled up in a forbidden passion story as cursed. Phew.

Beyond this aspect, the universe is interesting, the atmosphere in Shoreline is (for me) less attractive but it opens perspectives, broaden the array of actors (Daniel and Cam are less present, but Shelby and Miles are entering a bang), in addition to revealing another aspect of angels and other "creatures" surrounding. Even if I find fault it, I love this series for its development and ideas, I also think that the next book - Passion - offer a beautiful time travel. It's true that I feel about shared my feelings, often related to the details, but remains a true reading pleasure that is undeniable. You just maintain this delicate balance, wishing that the characters in petto still earn charisma.
