I enjoyed this novel, for several reasons. The story I liked, and the author has managed to bring a touch of originality by including a manipulative old duchess and a hero of the squabbling pair possible.
The narrative is interspersed with a few pages of the diary of the Duchess of Roxburghe. It made me think Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham, in the television series Downton Abbey. The Duchess is desperate to get his way and I loved his mischievous side.
The author provides us with magnetic characters with strong temperaments. You can imagine, this will spark. The novel is full of funny situations and funny, with delicious verbal jousting that made me smile many times. In the words of the Duchess of Roxburghe: their main common point is the pride, but this trait also spreads away from each other.
Balfour Rose is one of the godchildren of the Duchess. Rose's mother died when she was a child, his father took refuge in horticulture. Therefore the Rose grow faster to take care of the house and his two sisters. Rose is a young, impulsive and passionate woman, as Sinclair. They are both ready for a challenge and do not like losing.
Lord Sinclair, nicknamed Lord Sin ("sin" means "sin" in English) is the nephew of the Duchess of Roxburghe. Both his parents died in a car accident when he was seventeen years old and has become a householder. It is a proud and dissolute gentleman. He will go mad alone force to get into impossible situations, and the company of Rose will become a real drug for him. I loved to see him fall in love, who was convinced that Rose was the vilest of creatures.
In conclusion, I loved "Diary of a duchess, Volume 1: Rose." The author offers us a novel taking, with ups hero in color. I did not bored for a second and I highly recommend this book if you are fond of this collection.
