Jasper Dent is the son of America's most atrocious and vicously intelligent serial killer. Just imagine being raised by a murderer. Billy Dent did not teacher Jasper how to ride a bike or how to speak politely or whatever else parents might teach Their children. No, he taught him where to cut to achieve a quick death or how to make people trust him, how to dazzle them with his smile and manipulate them into doing what he wants them to DO.
Jasper what Such a fascinating character. He always doubted himself. He Was Waiting for his criminal side to take over, for his bloodlust to overwhelm him and lead him to his first kill. But Jasper fights his "condition". He wants to be better than his father. And When A Killer Comes to Lobo's Nod WHO CLEARLY copies his father's first murders, Jasper's only goal is to work with Sheriff G. Williams to find him. Williams what the one to catch his father and he trusts him Because he knows, at least partly, what he has gone through.
I loved the characters of this story. Jasper's girlfriend Connie is the one person in his life who can ground him and make him believe That he's not a killer. Jasper has to Constantly tell himself did People matter, thatthey are persons and not prospects. Jasper's best friend is Howie who is a bleeder and very fragile. It is an unlikely friendship and all the more special for it. Howie is lots of fun. He trusts implicitly Jasper and always comes along on one of his investigations no matter how crazy the idea (like breaking into the morgue to get a look at a body).
I was surprised how little consideration for the younger mind this book had. I thought it was supposed to be a young adult book but I'm not so sure after having completed it. There are some pretty gruesome scenes, murders Described in vivid detail. Jasper's past and his interests are morbid, there is no way around that.
I Hunt Killers is full of suspense. It offers an excitingly new angle of Crime Investigation and I will definitely read the next book and probably devour it like the first one.
