I have an LTE-capable mobile phone LG Optimus G, but so far only an O2 tariff with 2G / 3G for almost 2 years - used reception. Before Christmas 2014 I then fell on the new LTE tariffs from O2, in particular the LTE S, which in an Amazon - has offered action with a reduced activation fee. Because I immediately slammed, I do not mind paying the small extra charge to my previous tariff, to finally be able to use also the LTE network. O2 is compared yes to Telekom and Vodafone in 3G / H network supplies significantly worse, especially in rural areas.
The card was then also very fast. Number portability applied to 2/20/2015 (End of contract pre-existing contract) and continue to use the old card first by that date. On 02.22.2015 the old map was still running, and the new not. But then came the redeeming SMS, held my number portability in 2 days and I will make the card tag on 24.02.2015.
On 24/02/15 then took place then as expected no more power Application Altkarte. Changed SIM card, launched smartphone, eigegeben new PIN and .............. LTE in the power indicator on my display. Time for a speed test!
A look at the O2 network coverage map told me where I could I receive LTE outdoor 3G / HSDPA and where.
Here are the results (Country side, place with 4000 inhabitants). Each measuring 3 by connecting beams speedtest.net app:
-3G / HSDPA:
Ping: 70 ms
Download: 3.93 Mbit / s
Upload: 1.66 Mbit / s
-4G / LTE:
Ping: 27ms
Download: 21.16 Mbit / s
Upload: 11,78 Mbit / s
The figures speak for themselves.
Nevertheless, for me on the smartphone main added value that I can receive high-speed Internet in areas now that were now supplied only on 2G / EDGE. Today O2 achieved according to their own statements about 60% of the population with LTE. In addition, O2 is expanding its LTE - network even further massively, so that the Verso approximation situation during my contract period further improved.
All in all, a convenient high - speed solution which now barely leaves wishes in my case.
Conclusion: Buy recommendation for those who already have an LTE-enabled smartphone. But always - and this applies to all operators - check the LTE network coverage.
