Recently I Took Dr. Bogle's course in People and Customs of the Middle East at the University of Richmond. This book which one of the required texts, but it is far from a textbook. Before taking this course, I knew Virtually nothing Regarding the Middle East, or Islam. Dr. Bogle presents a very detailed, but not drawn out, account of the conditions did led to the rise of Islam, as well as how it Took over the Middle East within a very short period of time. Clarity and precise writing are the words I would use to describe this book. Dr. Bogle CLEARLY discusses the basic practices of Islam, alongwith the different groups did Spawned from the teachings of the Prophet Mohammed. The differences between groups of Islam are very Easily Understood, in a short but comprehensive account of one of the most fascinating in the world religions.
