Because I am with a Canon 60D (DSLR) and as back-up with a Sony NEX-5N go, I find myself quite capable to assess the quality and capabilities of Lumix TZ25.
Like all cameras in this price segment is also the TZ25 plastic, but which is qualitatively perfectly fine. All buttons, slide fasteners and feel great, nothing rattles or looks cheap.
Very advantageous as with the FZ38, the slider on / off and recording / playback. Why? It's simple: If you want to see only some pictures, will be the switch to playback and then turn on the camera. The lens remains closed and does not run out, the mechanics will thank one.
The display is clear enough to reproduce the color and images rich in detail and to detect blurring with 460,000 pixels.
The menu system is designed quite clearly, much is self-explanatory, some might simplify security (especially for amateurs), but achieved good overall.
The most important point for a camera but the image quality and at this point have to hold you that the "restriction" on the part of Panasonic to 12 million pixels is very beneficial.
But contrary to popular (lay) opinion that the number of megapixels is the quality characteristic par excellence, is the following fact: The more megapixels on an image sensor, the higher the noise and the interference of pixels with each other!
The APS-C sensors of DSLRs (z. B. Canon 60D) or system cameras (z. B. Sony NEX-5N), and the full-frame sensors (eg. As Canon 5D Mark III) can with high megapixel values bypass the smaller by more than 50%, partly 80% the sensors compact cameras just do not.
And yet it must be said very clearly that thanks to the really good MOS sensor and the good and fast image processor, the image quality of the TZ25 is really acceptable.
In optimal lighting conditions anyway, but even at the telephoto end in conjunction with the reliable image stabilization is obtained remarkably good results. One should not expect miracles, the laws of physics, the optics can now be thought about not going, but the normal demands on image quality, the TZ25 always more than justice.
The range of functions is also quite substantial, in addition to the fully automatic, there is the famous P-mode (automatic with additional manual settings), the time and aperture priority (S and A), the manual mode (M) and even two Customer mode ( C1 + C2), where you can pre-assign your own settings firmly. In addition, there is a very extensive Scene mode for z. B. night shots, portraits, sports etc. and creative programs such as B / W, Sepia, Miniature, HDR, etc.
The video mode is also really excellent and the image quality of moving images better than me. Zooming while filming is smooth and even inaudible.
All in all I have now occupied me for some time with the camera, made a lot of pictures and compared with those of my cameras in the same situations. By any objective and considered in the correct proportions of different cameras to each other, you have the TZ25 certify a really good quality. The zoom range is ideal for all situations and makes the traveler Zoom 25 useful on all pocketable. You can and will be my other two cameras can not replace, but that's what I'm saying with proportionality ... my wife is more than satisfied with the images that you can do now.
Who fold and touch displays, GPS and WiFi or similar gadgets are not important, we are talking indeed of a photo camera, the TZ25 is the recommended.
