The Metz MB 50 AF-1 C is the counterpart of Canon (Speedlite EX430 II) in most respects equal and superior in some respects. Advantages of Metz are the slightly higher power, the extendable Bouncecard and the possibility to update firmware via USB. The only drawback compared to the Canon model is the attachment to the camera's hot shoe, the classic, the Canon, however, is made by quick-release device in Metz via knurled nut, which is maybe 1-2 seconds quicker (I can with this "disadvantage" very well live) , The Metz has all the functions of the current Canon cameras (also HSS and wireless E-TTL) compatible. Also mixed setups, such as using a Canon ST-E2 as the master and each of Metz MB 50 AF-1 C and Canon Speedlite EX430 as slave work fine. The detailed manual is written in German and that you look at it actually understands. On top of the excellent service the company Metz with whom I've had the best experience (my 10 year old SCA was repaired on goodwill FREE).
All the more astonishing is the price, which is significantly below the Canon product.
