Beautiful device. In fully automatic mode, it is excellent exposure. The autofocus is very fast. Some classic objectives defects (chromatic aberrations, vignetting, pincushion / barrel distortion) are cleared by the digital processing of the camera, which is very comfortable. Details on the scale of 16 true megapixel (not as compact or worse mobile phones), even in difficult lighting. It can also be a development of raw images in the camera. It supports all Nikon AF lenses, it can control remote flash units (including the SB600) without additional accessories. So very versatile, very good, very pleasant to use. The LCD (1 Mpix I think) is beautiful. In short, it's a beautiful beast that is promised to a brilliant career.
A few snags:
- The settings are less natural when one passes in live view. Some settings can not be made, or more in the same way (it can be corrected by updating the firmware, perhaps)
- The battery is difficult to get out of its housing. If the device is not in the right position when I unlock the battery, it remains in the device, and I can not pull out of its housing. My brain drives me ape then typing the box on the table to this & # @! * ^ $ & @ Battery wants out. Solution: Unlock the battery when the battery compartment is under the lens and there, hop it out nicely. The Nikon quality assurance we had not used to it, especially since it's not a firmware update that will fix this.
Video
However, the video remains a gadget. It is unusable (or very difficult to use) because:
- AF pump live-view and premium sound of the pump is recorded by the microphone. In low light, it pumps for eternity (like Shadocks).
- Capturing video frames is aliased to give highly visible moiré effects on a net scene. Highly visible and annoying.
- Manual zooming or sharpening ring (FFRT FFRT ...) are recorded by the microphone.
For the brave who want to make the video with will require:
- A separate microphone and remote AWAY from the camera (flash on location, it is still too close) or make audio dubbing
- Shoot at a fixed distance, or else move the sharpness ring in hand, possibly with an external lever sold by specialty stores (with a microphone boonies, otherwise ... "FFRT FFRT")
- Does make that sequences with a depth of low field (scenes so close), otherwise we moiré and false colors galore throughout the image. With a shallow depth of field, it appears only on a small portion of the image and it's less embarrassing. Provide neutral density filters for the scenes in bright light.
By cons,
- The 18-105 VR stabilizes the video very well and quietly, so a walk is not in any essential rigor.
- The colors are beautiful.
In short it is still not for holiday videos of children.
Amazon
Fast delivery. However, a catch: Amazon shipped me the device without warning with instructions in German. It is not very smart and not very classy. To me, this would not have changed my decision to buy the device, but I would have liked to know when buying the device, and not to be a fait accompli after opening the package.
