Don Van Vliet is reported to have called for the return of the money for the plates "Unconditionally Guaranteed" and "Blue Jeans and Moonbeams". After repeated listening to the album I can understand the call very. Nevertheless, it should not necessarily be followed to him. At first listen, I was shocked and would have given only one or two star. Then I realized: The songs seem to work on a much more mundane level than usual - but they work! One should probably call mainstream, but it is also an intelligent parody of the blues-rock mainstream, without this not to be taken seriously. This is enhanced by a few Beefheart-typical elements. Result: a catchy but still something original album from a single source, poignant melodies simple but trenchant simple texts. Banal is ultimately nothing but that! Who does not have false expectations, the album is like, even though it is certainly not Beefheart's finest hour. Anspieltips: the downright epic UPON THE MY-oh-my, I GOT LOVE ON MY MIND and THIS IS THE DAY (!). Incidentally, here comes Don Van Vliet beautiful voice at last to its best advantage!
