This simple gameplay was lifted by the only permanent aids to a higher level: the Portal gun. This is inputs and outputs could produce on appropriate walls, floors or ceilings, so you achieve previously unattainable switch boxes or energy balls and therefore still could reach the exit.
The icing beside this addictive gameplay and the implementation was GlaDOS on the universally popular sayings and "encouragement" and of course not forgetting the "Companion Cube" and: the cake! Portal 1 was played through pretty quickly, even for inexperienced took the fun no 7 hours.
So now the long-awaited successor appeared - and he does pretty much everything right.
The gameplay is the same as the first part. However, Valve has now missed the game a very motivating multiplayer part and extended the puzzles or problems by light bridges, various gels and other small items have been installed. It was sufficient in the first part yet that you placed the right portal in the right place at the right time, you have to think "around the corner" and also the timing of the action moves to the fore in Portal 2 significantly more. To be overwhelmed fear, however you do not need to have. Who had fun at Portal 1, comes fairly quickly clear with Portal 2 and the new features later in the game. And who plays as a freshman Portal 2 for the first time will be introduced by a model and integrated into the story tutorial on the complex matter. Reservations are therefore out of place)
Since the single player mode is also played out again very quickly (less than 10 hours for beginners, 6-7 for portal veterans), one should note the multiplayer part especially.
Here you play one of two available robots and must together through various test chambers. The respective puzzles are partly quite tricky, but never unfair. And it gets here really important that you work with. Each robot player can create, for example, 2 portals and so ensure considerably more room for maneuver - which often enough, however, is necessary. Per keypress you give the partner instructions, to provide details of what the other just has in view and performs emotes - useful and fun at the same time. And anyone who has ever pulled his partner the light bridge under your feet while waving one of these, may enjoy not only the laughter and cursing this person, but gets on top of that an achievement / trophy.
The story itself is actually of secondary importance, but offers at the end but a surprise or two. Suffice it to say: GlaDOS will test again, true to the song line "Still Alive" from Portal 1: ". We do what we must Because We Can"
Conclusion
****
Neither the curious player who has never played Portal 1, yet the fan of the "first hour" will be disappointed from Portal 2. Even those who can not do anything with the multiplayer or wants, will have a lot of fun with the single player mode. Here no one can really do something wrong, if you even just a little bit which can start with the basic gameplay. For you!
