After a break due to illness over a few years, I have my old XT500 (Silver Tank) reactivated; knew until then that gasoline so perfectly crystallized - as if holes and channels in the carburetor never existed; So buy carburetor gasket set along with new nozzles and brought "learning-by-doing" the carburetor back up to snuff.
Now the old Ur-XT is so constructed that any village blacksmith can repair them (electrically and combustion technology);
When considerably more sophisticated Keihin CV carburetors my '93er FatBoy I would still not over it dared unassisted ->
Bought 1) said Haynes repair book
Taken 2) trust
) Bought 3 gaskets and new nozzles ('m not an ultrasonic bath - but everything else makes little to no sense)
Imitation 4) step by step - everything is fortunately well illustrated (... who can jargon in English ...)
Epilogue: The English-German Dictionary of was not included - but there's on the publisher's website [...] as a free download (pdf file in 19 different languages!)
Thanks Haynes I grew from a simple driver for successful screwdriver :-)
