We come first to the positive things that I liked in Skyward Sword. On the graphic style I had to get used to, but with increasing playing time knew this but very pleasing. The Music? Also very nice! Finally (almost) any newly launched music from 'Ocarina of Time', but many new tunes invited the to hum along. The best level (section)? Clearly the Ranelle desert! Here I liked everything: graphics, music, topography, the people housed there and the original puzzle of the temple (keyword: Stones of Time). The playing time? Nothing to complain about! I needed (without all the side quests to solve) some 34 hours.
- What I did not like? -
The Wii Motion Plus controller! She does not always work perfectly, and especially with the much-vaunted sword fights often arose frustrating moments. And con skill situations that were dealt with a joypad in older Zelda games in the blink mutate here to real patient samples. We know how the enemies are defeat, but when you lose the fight because of undetected sword blows, tugging quite on the nerves. Constantly the camera angle by Z-button has to be readjusted. Lack second analog stick, there is no all-round camera, such as in the GameCube version of Twilight Princess'. The same applies to the ego perspective or situations where it arrives on accurate targeting (archery, grappling hook, Aura Search, etc.) - the pointer is moved it must first be trued.
- "Master, I have given you something to report." -
Link's new companion Phai is as helpful as a clogged toilet. They babble superfluous stuff and always expressed in percentages. And the worst: it has no personality. It is an emotionless machine status report. How much I've Midna or Navi wished for - the two still felt at least like characters on.
- The upper world: clouds, blue sky, a few islands -
As for the cloud Hort and the sea of clouds: Who has the Ocean Isle concept of 'Wind Waker' did not like, will also not be happy here. You fly around and there discover little - boring! The "Erdland" consists of only three areas (forest, volcano, desert). These are visited during the game several times. These are then although minimal varied, yet you wonder "What? Again there by?". Only in the desert Ranelle opens the last Tort relevant visit a previously accessible section. By "recycling area", the playing time is artificially protracted. A fourth area with such as "ice" theme would have the variety in the game well done.
But not only areas to be recycled, but also opponents! In all areas, there are the same old enemies (Bokblins, goo, bats). Sure, other opponents occur, but the aforementioned pierce through the frequent appearance just very apparent. Even two types boss must be defeated in the game three times (!). Again, one wonders: "Again Why again?" The first few hours of game dressed so then because the action just is not right is picking up speed. The first two temples are a joke when it comes to traditional Zelda complexity. Only from the third temple will finally tricky. Temple with more than two floors are unfortunately scarce.
- Ocarina of Time Prequel? -
Skyard Sword is said the history of 'Ocarina of Time' tell. In the tangled Zelda timeline Skyward Sword may well certainly play before Ocarina of Time, but other than the Master Sword no further links with other elements (eg Deku Tree, Ganon, Zora, etc.) are here told.
- Zelda Light? -
Skyward Sword has (in German: casual gamers) to the reproach leave, in favor of so-called casual gamers to have been simplified. Why you have to start the game already six heart container instead the traditional three hearts? Nintendo must have been clear about that not all players with the oh-so-precise Wii MotionPlus control from the outset would come clear. Thus you will therefore not be transported in the first few hours of play, from the easiest opponents in the Game Over screen, you donated no less than six hearts to the player via the control frustration threshold hinwegzuretten.
- Conclusion -
Today's gamers is quite undemanding because he always wants to have the same stuff as last time. Therefore, unfortunately, any new Zelda title will be immediately compared with Ocarina of Time. What is quite unfair because each new Zelda (also Skyward Sword) itself has something unique, what sets it apart from the other titles of the series. And that's just as well. This degenerates the Zelda series not to such a conveyor belt titles such as the 'Call of Duty' series or the EA Sports games.
Skyward Sword is not a bad game. It's not a bad Zelda ...
... BUT ...
... It has been simplified in favor of casual gamers. By repeating areas, recycled standard - and bosses and the frustration causing control, Skyward Sword leaves a streaky impression.
