Amandla (Audio CD)

Customer Review

For "Amandla" Miles Davis took over the role of bandleader, he had largely ceded to the previous CDs ("Tutu" and "Siesta") to the Fender bass player Marcus Miller in 1989 for the last time.
On "Amandla" the elite of Miles' former live band can be heard, that is next to Marcus Miller (as multi-instrumentalist), for example, Kenny Garrett (alto saxophone), Paulinho da Costa (Percussioni), Foley (guitar) and Omar Hakim (drums ).
"Amandla" is oriented while the sound of the previous album "Tutu" - but with a greater sense of human interlude. Examples include the pieces "Jo-Jo" and "Jilli" with gorgeous call-and-response parts between Kenny Garrett fat sax sound and Miles Davis' fragile, muted trumpets phrases. With classically undedämpfter Trumpet Miles Davis pays tribute to the recently deceased "Mr. Pastorius" tribute - a composition whose chord (as well as the title song "Amandla") to Miles' traditional ballads recall. To my favorite songs on "Amandla" include the dramatic "Hannibal", which by the way is still (end of 2003) is one of the highlights of the gig Marcus Miller Band ...
Conclusion: Overall, this is in "Amandla" to a timeless good jazz album, which despite a tendency to Easy Listening also has something for the discerning ear of jazz fans to offer.
