Mireille Mathieu 2013: German

Wenn Mein Lied Deine Seele Kus (CD)

Customer Review

As she prepares to celebrate his 50 year career, Mireille Mathieu, internationally renowned star, released a new album for Germany - and performed in German of course. This new CD includes 6 new songs and 8 times (7 former successes of the artist and a newer title).

The six new songs are not unpleasant, but derive from a German variety that sometimes goes wrong with the French public (which is not the intended audience, certainly). The most successful title is probably 'Etwas Licht', whose melody is signed Mireille Mathieu itself, and less good 'Was mein nicht sagen will Verstand at horrifying chorus. While overall the new songs are of good quality, it must be recognized that they do not bring much to the artist's repertoire.

The rest of the album consists of covers of his success, and here things get tough a little. If the interpretation is impeccable, and it is interesting to hear success starts with the most mature voice of the artist, I regret the choice of orchestrations and arrangements. It's flashy, without subtlety, without finesse, with carnival atmospheres ('Hinter den Kulissen), Carnival (' Taratating Taratatong), cartoon for toddlers (the introduction of 'Es geht mir gut '), etc ... Even the most successful orchestrations (' Waltzer der Liebe ',' Gott im Himmel ') we finally disappointed because it was possible to do much better. The times of old tubes operate if the new versions bring something new, innovative, a rereading, a recreation. In this case, we say just that it's worse than the original. How Mireille Mathieu, who has worked with the greatest composers and conductors, can be satisfied with such poor orchestration? Let us listen again 'MM Chante Piaf' and it will be understood immediately what I mean.

It will be understood, this new album is causing me some disappointment. A shame as the voice of the artist still seduces me as much and remains an exceptional performer, but his talent is here misused. We expect better of an international star and a legendary performer, starting with great songs.
It is hoped that the French album for his 50 years of career is the result of a real artistic project and it will be surrounded by a competent team of composers and authors inspired - if it go draw in others: Brel, Bécaud, Barbara, Trenet, Ferrat, ... where she can find the Shoe Fits!
