A long time I am convinced that the Staatskapelle Dresden is the best orchestras in the world. I have quite a few shots under Blomstedt and Sinopoli, all sound perfectly. But this Strauss-recording under the new chief conductor Fabio Luisi still seems to me a clear track brilliant, expressive. The program was not included in the Semper Opera House, but in the Lukas Church in Dresden - apparently a place noted for its spectacular acoustics!
A surprise is the final of the "hero life". Here he is heard as it Strauss had originally envisioned: Very quietly, only a single violin is heard - very impressive after all the opulent sound solid before.
In September Luisi and the Staatskapelle come to Frankfurt to the concert - I'll be there in any case out as a listening experience I will not escape me safe.
