Sound:
The Sangean RCR-10 has two forward-radiating speakers with a diameter of almost seven centimeters. The ups and downs can be adjusted separately. That's not a foregone conclusion at clock radios in this price range. In addition, the device offers a loudness to compensate for high and low frequencies. On delivery this is set to ON as a result, work that both music and language somewhat bass-heavy. Who does not like, this function set to off. But that's a matter of taste.
With the sound of my wife and I very satisfied. Everyone should be aware that a clock radio now time is not hi-fi system. Incidentally, nothing rattles even at high volumes. This is perhaps also the right sound and well-made housing.
Reception performance:
The device has a highly sensitive RDS receiving unit with good selectivity. I was very surprised how many, also more distant stations, I receive completely free from noise. The RDS signal is at all stations that provide RDS available, very stable (Seder and title / artist display). The device has an automatic station search. However, a manual adjustment is also possible. It can store five stations are preset to each have their own preset button.
Also important, as in many other devices every now and then complained: Even with a very low volume, no background noise such as noise, hum or the like can be heard.
Alarm:
It can be set dual alarms, being each set whether to be awakened only once, daily, Monday-Friday or on the weekend. Adjusting the alarm is simple and done in seconds: press alarm 1 or 2 and set to the right wheel on the device the hour. This goes back and forth depending on the direction of rotation. Then press dial to confirm and then set the minutes. Press button to confirm again and finished.
You can choose whether you want to be woken up with beep, radio or a docked iPod. For radio alarm, the volume is automatically increased slowly until the pre-defined volume. So you do not fall equally in fright out of bed.
The snooze function can be set if the alarm should be repeated by pressing any key after each 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes.
Clock:
The Sangean RCR-10 has a radio clock. The display shows the very stable reception of the DCF-77 receiving part of always. Optionally, a system of RDS is possible.
Display:
Every now and then there is criticism in reviews that the screen brightness even at the lowest level is too bright especially if the machine is on the nightstand beside the bed. This can neither my wife nor I confirm. The display brightness can be changed in seven steps or even exhibit whole. I believe that the lowest level is acceptable also for the bedroom. But well, some people are now even more sensitive to light, so that my or our assessment in this regard does not have to apply to all people.
More Options:
Auto power off:
Who wants to sleep with soft music has the ability to activate the sleep timer which ensures that the unit after 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 or 120 minutes off by itself.
Connections:
In addition to a headphone jack, the device offers an auxiliary jack for a 3.5mm jack. Thus can also listen to music from an mp3 player with the RCR-10. For but a special cable is then usually required. Then there is a line-out port for connecting to a stereo system. I see no sense in it, however.
Remote Control:
The small remote control in credit card format must be regarded more as a gimmick. It has therefore all the important functions under control. If the machine is on the nightstand next to the bed, the remote control in my opinion, however, is unnecessary. My wife and I do not use anyway.
iPod dock connector:
Used to play audio files from an iPod and a charging station for this. Because I can, I have no iPod say nothing about this feature.
Appearance, haptics:
The appearance is a matter of taste. My wife and I find that makes the Sangean RCR-10 well on the bedside table.
All controls (knobs and control knobs) can easily be reached. The pushbuttons have a clear pressure point and no play. The two knobs convey also solidity. In general, the device gives a very stable and functional impression.
Conclusion: My wife and I would buy the Sangean RCR-10 at any time.
