The Night of the Rabbit (computer game)

Customer Review

In "The Night of the Rabbit" it is probably just around the previously controversial Adventure made by Daedalic Entertainment: The reviews of various magazines and online magazines regarding this game go yes partly rather far apart and I had the first Preview some doubts me the whole thing is not perhaps a trace came along too childish. As you talk with fashion-conscious squirrel, travel-loving voles, Radio-moderating moles, evil mask lizards, owls and annoyed a post-frog! The sometimes really embarrassing jokes, the main protagonist Jerry Hazelnut (contrast sounds even a name like Guybrush Threepwood properly trustworthy) so the stack can ("Why bees hum?"), Then gave me first and the rest! Luckily, I am but decided to keep playing and I did not regret it! The first so happily appearing "Heile Welt" atmosphere takes in the course of the adventure that is quite gloomy trains on! While the mentioned at the beginning of Adventures, supposedly menacing crows Plage proves real disappointment for the players (at least I found it so), the real threat comes only about the second half to fruition. I do not want to reveal too much, but there is nothing at the end as it seems at first! Speaking of the end: one will in many titles of this genre usually fobbed off with a rather short "Outro" is "The Night of the Rabbit" a laudable exception, because what is shown here takes at least five minutes and is also very appealing and lovingly been designed. The latter goes for the entire program is the presentation of the previous Daedalic titles but into nothing after.

"The Night of the Rabbit" earned critical acclaim for his violent partly German speakers, especially main protagonist Jerry fell in this regard unpleasant. Well, to find a suitable voice actor for a little boy, would certainly not be too easy. I personally found Jerry's voice on the whole fine, even if one or the other comment from him is a bit annoying (see above), the result was nonetheless highly professional out ... I've seen far worse! As for the appearance of individual characters, they are very nicely designed and the animations reach the high standard you would expect from Daedalic date. Certainly, here and there, there are already times one or the other jerky motion and (at least for me) of the guard on duty shone on the wall of the entrance gate to the city occasionally with a short absence, saying: between disappearing times for one second, emerged a little later but again. However, these are quite exceptional phenomena which are likely to know from other programs and beyond these little bugs diminish in no way the flow of the game and the atmosphere.

The individual puzzles are, as we know already from other Daedalic games such as "The Whispered World", "A New Beginning" or "Deponia" trilogy, all well done / thought. Most one comes here with logic and "around the corner thinking" ahead, but I had to in a few places but then a look at the walkthrough throw - to 99 percent, the applied solutions are but always comprehensible. Achievement fans are also likely to get their money in this game, because despite missing Steam connection (thankfully) the retail version, there are trophies and bonus features galore. Whether to be collected "Stories from the Forest Mouse" will appeal to everyone (which, incidentally, is also present in the form of a bonus CD in the abundant stuffed with goodies package), however, is ultimately a matter of taste. As far as the playing time I've used a few days until I was completely puzzled (more or less) by the mouse Forest. A significant part of it but I have spent with the integrated card game, but you can almost every resident of the fantasy world encourage them to gamble with him one round.

"Ease of use" is another point which is very important again at this Daedalic title: Thus, as previously, a supporting hotspot feature integrated Interestingly, this is but with the help of a magic coin activated (the familiar grip on the Space key but works well) and offers in addition to the usual highlighting important objects, persons or outputs beyond adding one additional feature, namely the detection of ghosts that are not visible to the naked eye. Furthermore, Jerry comes in the course of history in possession of a magic book, with which he at any time, switch between day and night and can herwechseln. This feature gives the already extensive adventure additional depth, every place is now in a quasi present in duplicate! Linked to this, certain people in the night now adhere to other destinations on the day, which caused sometimes also vary by the change of location, the topics of conversation. Furthermore, this particular situation change in the landscape, which is why Jerry should take every inch of the night once again under the microscope can be a problem during the day not cope, so this could change fundamentally at night!

User comfort Abel shows "The Night of the Rabbit 'also, when it comes to visit already explored places again: If you have a particular person helped in the game, one can henceforth travel comfortably on a map from place to place without any images repeated need to go through. That Jerry before selecting the respective point additionally can switch between day and night mode is almost no longer worth mentioning. A map has the game even more than necessary, I think, because unlike titles such as "A New Beginning" or "Deponia" trilogy, which are constructed basically fairly linear, Daedalic oriented at "The Night of the Rabbit "more like" Edna breaks out ", where you also yes constantly switch between the different rooms or floors of the asylum and had to simply switch to master the whole puzzle. Specifically, in this adventure I have such a card feature sorely lacking even nicer that it is now available in "The Night of the Rabbit".

Finally, let me say that even this adventure classifies high seamlessly into the series of recent point-and-click adventure from Daedalics developers forge. Certainly, especially in the first two hours, in which one makes the acquaintance with all sorts of animals that inhabit the forest mouse, I have done me pretty hard. It has already lasted for a while until the spark has jumped right with me, but the more I progressed in the game, I appropriated the more spells and items to me, the more I was fascinated Jerrys trip to the fantasy world. Once you have realized the first of four incantations learned the story is gaining more and more momentum, and in particular the challenge to use the learned spells to solve the many problems correctly, the program gives a not insignificant complexity. (Pass through portals into other worlds, work magic, day and night cycles, figures change, etc.) Such special features stuffed title is no longer occurred to me since LucasArts classics "Zak McKracken" because even if it is at other Daedalic- Adventures such as the "Deponia" trilogy to is truly outstanding representatives of their genre, so they offer a not such a wide range of different actions, as is the case with "The Night of the Rabbit"! Add to that the compared to other games quite extravagant-looking packaging content, the "Stories from the mouse Forest", a color manual, a double-sided printed Posters and a addition to the actual game disc even the complete soundtrack of the program, the audio CD "magic coin" (to copy) contains the usual Daedalic standard grip, one is almost tempted to say ...

Is I think in any case that "The Night of the Rabbit" a very good adventure become - though sometimes a bit strange (especially in the beginning), but nevertheless very entertaining and captivating ...
