What Jari Mäenpää is delivers here just yet awesome! Not least because he has all the tools, even recorded except the drums. One would think that with some instruments such shortcomings can be reported, but this is not so easy! How can you best describe Wintersun? Double bass-driven melodic death symphonies, which are backed by divine keyboard carpets and garnished with lots of guitar solos branded Nocturnal Rites. There are also some "Viking Choir" parts, which are perfectly staged. Wintersun employ numerous elements - total may call a dazzling experience to this album. Symphonic, atmospheric, sometimes fast, sometimes very emotional, something for everyone and always full of surprises. Even if Death Metal is not soooo very like, you should check it again - I know a lot of Sonata Arctica- and Blind Guardian fans, the album alike will love! The song "Beyond The Dark Sun", which was implemented as a coupling even than video, I do not find -ganz- so representative of the album because the song first, (as in the other reviews mentioned) is short and secondly, not all long includes elements. It represents just represents the overall "flow", the speed and the "basics" of Wintersun. It's just very difficult to describe. Just listen once the song "Winter Madness" to complete and you will understand what I mean when I say that the album is just exciting!
