Processing
The unit is relatively light (580g) acts with value and convinces despite the plastic housing also in the dock well. The often quoted "wobbling" of the tablet in the dock I could reproduce with little firmer grip. But who has so rumzerrt at his unit soon completely different problems with it. Keyboard is fine, but please do not expect the quality of a mechanical desktop keyboard.
The display actually has a slight predisposition to the "warm" colors. From a yellow or even red-stitch I would not speak. The "HD Ready" -Resolution I find perfectly adequate in this display. Reading is not strenuous, contrasts and colors are fine.
Unfortunately, it is only a capacitive display, therefore, the ordinary pen input is not possible which is more like the price range.
+ 2 stars for processing, display and weight
Performance, features
The performance of the Atom Dual Core CPU really made me very surprised. Win 8 can be controlled very fluid, desktop apps running relatively quickly.
After the optional expansion of Windows 8 with Windows 8 Pro Pack (59.99) can also be fully RDP (Remote Desktop, remote control) and the Windows Media Center use.
About a Lan-TV Box I use the device as a mobile TV. The HD channels doing a bit of problems so I suspect as well as a sub-speaker, the wireless reception performance falters here.
That should> 50 MBit / s to be relevant only in compounds. In your browser, and "cloud" -Apps you notice any of it.
The battery life I have not watched closely. The unit was almost the whole test period in use (little sleep) and has now still 29% remaining. This really is very good.
+ 3 Stars for versatility, relatively high power and super battery life
- 1/2 star because of the (presumably) to a weak wireless reception
Stability and Others
So far I had 2 times a complete system freeze. In this case, the device can be switched off only via the usual four seconds Hard shutdown. I suspect that has to do with some touch inputs, but it could not reproduce previously. Leistungstechnisch the device was rather bored at these times.
Also quoted here error of touchpad freezes (2-3 seconds no function) I noticed. Here I hope clearly on improvement via software updates from Acer.
- 1/2 star for driver / instability in operation
Conclusion: 4 stars
For a comparison with Android and / or iPads I have deliberately left outside before. Of course, Android has a huge app selection and Apple throws with retina displays to be ... but I was looking for a device with which one can work in the Windows environment. That is not even close to possible to the competition!
The unit earned, provided that no further crashes and Acer puts even check with the drivers, the absolute maximum rating of 5 stars.
Since advance laurels but never were good there's only times only 4 of them ...
------------------ ------------------ Update 07:12:12
It reappeared sporadically in crashes (freezes) at RDP connections. Otherwise, everything is still good.
A few numbers for WLAN (Router WNDR3700, 3m clear track tested with Nets Tress)
Internal Broadcom chip: mixed B / G / N network -> 8.5 Mbps (bad) / 5GHz WLAN -> about 33 Mbps (it so)
Compare over external USB Atheros AR7015: mixed B / G / N network -> 55 Mbps / 5GHz WLan: not possible
Wi-Fi video streaming is not possible via the internal chip for me. About the external adapter, it works well.
Hopefully there is still a better driver.
