Samsung Curved Monitor S27D590C 68.6 cm (27 inch) LED monitor (VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort, 4ms response time) black and shiny (Accessories)

Customer Review

Since it takes relatively little currently on the internet about this monitor I try to express my brief impressions and feelings.

At first I was again strayed me to buy this model, as in various forums came up a lot of negative comments:

- Too expensive
- Only 1080P, which is unacceptable in this size
- Too slow to play

Specifically therefore considered a monitor for anyone. So to work on low resolution, for playing too slowly. If necessary, even for watching movies suitable.

I bought 3 monitors of this type for my betagtes multimonitor setup. (3x Samsung BX2431)

My impressions are as follows:

Gaming capabilities (tested in surround mode, so direct comparison of the two monitors side by side):
- Response time for normal players well enough. I could barely notice a difference to my TN monitors. If I have been focused mainly I maybe could make a minimal advantage for the TN panels. These were indeed not always the best, but the target audience is likely also not be the "Pro Gamer".
- Fabwiedergabe as desired. So naturally or through the Game mode highly flamboyant and oversubscribed. As you like. In Bioshock Infinite eg I liked the game mode like. Problems through the intervention of the monitor in this mode are not noticed.

Photos / graphics and Office:
For the home user without limitations. My previous monitors were not real lights in the segment color fidelity and illumination, but the new ones make here a really good job. Without these settings provide an excellent Fabtreue. Almost frighteningly close to printing. Outshines White in office and do not appear so far to the brightness slightly turns down. The rest is still bright enough. These things I have the LG 34UM95 differently in memory.

Pros and Cons:

Pro:
- Image. No illumination clouds. No dark spots in the white image (for example, I had the LG 34UM95). Without calibration already a good color fidelity.
- Game performance good for casual gamers. Since I have no way of proper tests I rely only on my feeling. I had a clean performance while playing Bioshock Infinite eg. Important: Place the reaction time of the monitor to standard. At level 1, there is already a suit.
- Design, processing well. Stand surface textured plastic looks and feels dibasic.
- No noise present. Neither power supply nor components in the monitor make sounds.
- HDMI cable is included.

Neutral:
- Curved Design. For a multimonitor setup might of the optics, yet fittingly, from her picture, but in my opinion no gain. I see absolutely no difference. Either my eyes are strange or "curved" is a new marketing gimmick.
- Speakers underground. As most probably eh build on a sound system, I grab the times in the neutral field. Look for simple sounds or even a Youtube video are likely to be sufficient.
- No DP cable here. One can initially via HDMI connection should then but if available sometime a DP get cable.

Negatives:
- Price. I slammed on the 3 for 2. Therefore, the price has relativized. But for nearly 400 EUR, there are probably other alternatives.
- No QHD. For my purposes, not absolutely necessary, since I have enough space to work with 3 monitors, but to be the only one monitor for people certainly have a KO criterion
- Monitor a tendency on the bracket to vibrate, because this is very difficult and gives an ideal pendulum. This may possibly be for people with a not very sturdy table is a problem. I would just try whether an unstable table enough to allow the monitor resonates.

Conclusion:
For a multi-monitor setup recommended in particular for a favorable rate. Work can be quite good so far and there are also no other points that really bother me.
The low resolution can be for users of a monitor, a no-go, which also have both a superior technical standard. However, I would have my problems with 3x QHD. In games such as under Windows I'd probably go the smaller resolution, which in turn would bring problems in the sharpness with it.

So I have my monitors now but finally found where I am not pre-warmed. :)

Update 30/11/14

Once I have something with the / monitor (s) are employed me up or invaded a few things:

1. The feet are not part of Aluminirum (as previously the top of the first review). Since the monitors have lain before assembly in cold car, my material was due to the temperature and structure before such metal. But it is completely to plastic (the visible part). But it looks quite appealing from. The combination of base and monitor but is essentially made of metal, that is stable.
2. The speakers are not as bad as first thought. Who has little desktop space can thus I think are reasonably happy. Games are not a problem, dynamic music does. :) So something like most flat-panel televisions. I think a lot more you can not expect the advertising promises on the Samsung side they are not yet justice.
3. The speakers can be adjusted by the seemingly sound when you operate 3 monitors. The setting menu can be limited to the left and right channels. It is thus possible to use the speaker without faulty localization with simultaneous operation of 3 monitors.
4. Speed of the panel: In the meantime, I have made numerous comparisons between my 2ms TN monitor and 4ms Curved. The difference is there, that's for sure. However, it is not as clear as it actually would be or was supposed to do. Medium-speed homogeneous movements make the image look slightly out of focus, Buschstaben draw a small lane (eg desktop window back and forth to test). In the 2ms TN monitor that looks similar, except that there the track looks frazzled, you realize that this monitor has more reserves. Mind you this is to complain at a high level. I had not thought of initially, according to reports in the net on VA panel that the performance would be as good.
5. reaction speed in the menu: I've gotten so opted for the "faster / Faster" the medium variant. With direct observation can be a slight ghosting in certain movements observe a total gaming experience but most authentically comes. Incidentally, even the 2ms TN Samsung has this setting and behaves similarly.
6. Curved like me getting better. I must have been too much on the advertising promises. It is nice, you can get used to it but it is not a revelation. It is rather a small touch more feel-good feeling for the eyes. :) This monitor is also available without the technology Curved whom this is not so important which can save money => S27D590P
7. The image is really still super. Neither a white, black or colored image also brought to light the slightest blemish. Here I am absolutely delighted and would not expect this quality in this price range.
8. A negative point is I have noticed, is not but is possibly the monitor itself: I have a ground loop (slight humming) on the speakers if I spend the sound through HDMI on the Montor. Have so far not yet done about it, sometimes watching what the cause is. Maybe the cable is also somewhere inconvenient.

My second conclusion:
Although I was now almost as far as the monitors to convert in an ultra widescreen as three 27 "breaker on the desk but are quite large, me, the overall performance has quite impressed. Were too large and include the" problems / quirks you at would take the mid-priced IPS monitors in purchasing. The first Curved Ultra Widescreen LG for example costs a lot more and there the failures and the IPS Glow seem partly to be a disaster.

All in all, well worth a closer look.

UPDATE 12/17/2014

Time for a quick update.

I now wish to spend time with the monitors in a variety of areas of responsibility and am completely satisfied.

Meanwhile, I use as a pixel accelerator Radeon R9 295x2.
Now I can finally use 3x DisplayPort and have to say that's worth it! Even controlling alone feature on the workspace switching on and off of the monitors is just super comfortable. Since I knew no alternative in HDMI. Windows key + P does not work anymore since Windows 8.1, for example.

Games fit I guess the monitors now, for me personally, a fully. For example, I Alien insulation by played completely in 3x Full HD ... and that was just a blast! :)

So if you want a lot of picture in decent quality can safely access insofar as the price is right. I find almost 400 EUR still too expensive, even though the monitors are better than me.
Hence the one missing star. :)
